Who you are
- Experience working with Ruby on Rails
- Extensive experience working with other APIs (best of breed and the questionable!) - RESTful APIs, SOAP, and legacy API technologies
- Flexible, able to deal with changing business requirements and the inherent messiness of dealing with someone else’s system
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Passion for making an impact on the business
- You feel at home in Postman, enjoy designing logical and enjoyable to consume APIs as well as testing multiple APIs from integration partners
- You have a passion for creating exceptional DX through API design & documentation
- You enjoy looking at the wider challenge to see what other tooling can be implement to help Pinpoint achieve greater connectivity in business processes
- You understand the need for quick tight coupling as well as the benefits of more well considered abstractions and interface design for the ability to swap out core integrations with ease where needed
What the job involves
- Reporting To: Chief Technology Officer
- A software integrations engineer specialises in building software to integrate with other applications (typically via API) as well as providing services and tooling for 3rd parties and clients to better manage exporting of data from Pinpoint
- Work on integrations and the API has been split among the team, but as we scale as a business the need for a person dedicated to maintaining the API and building out new integrations has become more and more important
- This is also a pivotal time to look at functional tooling and processes to better help Pinpoint play even more strongly in the HR & business process ecosystem
- Building out and maintaining the external API and documentation
- Scoping and building additional integrations for our integrations marketplace as business needs dictate
- Defining how we analyse API usage and success over time to better evolve the API product
- Looking at the wider opportunity to help Pinpoint be easier to get data in and out of whether this be improving webhook functionality, creating internal data mapping tools or looking to take some process work out of the core codebase and look at processes for cloud functions to carry out procedural mapping tasks
- You’ll be doing a great job in the software integrations engineer role when the following is true:
- We have a roadmap for improvements to the external API and are hitting that roadmap
- The external API is on a par with the internal API and clients can do everything without ever having to log into the UI. Effectively making Pinpoint headless
- You have an understanding of what changes are being made to the product and how that will affect the roadmap for changes to the external API
- The documentation for the API is completely up to date and includes useful examples of how to use the API
- Working with 3rd party API connectors to quickly scaffold integrations we struggle to work with directly either due to resource availability or access (i.e. merge.dev)
- Working with the head of ecosystem and partnerships we have a roadmap for upcoming integrations along with the technicals details of how we can integrate with each new partner
- Within 6 months we have a clear scorecard of how we measure API and integration success and failure to better guide development going forward
