- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 4-7 years of work experience, partnerships experience is a plus
- Very strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong project management and time management skills
- Mastery of Google Sheets, intermediate-level spreadsheet modeling, Google Slides, and creating presentations
- Experience working with, or at, a large retailer is a plus, especially as a merchant/buyer, partnerships, account management, or sales roles
- Bonus: Experience working at a company that sells home furnishings, greeting cards, stationery, art, or a physical product
What the job involves
- Minted is seeking a highly motivated, business-savvy, passionate, and detail-oriented Manager of Strategic Partnerships to join our Business Development team
- We’re looking for someone who is not only passionate about design and retail but also curious, intrinsically motivated, and eager to think strategically about how to grow and sustain impactful partnerships
- Our team is currently focused on the Art and Greeting Card verticals
- The Manager of Strategic Partnerships will play a critical role in scaling our fast-growing wholesale businesses, creating major distribution opportunities for our community of 16,000 independent artists
- Today, major retailers and brands, including Target, Samsung, West Elm, Pottery Barn Kids, Pottery Barn Teen, and Williams Sonoma, Amazon, and DoorDash partner with Minted to source unique, artisanal design backed by Minted’s scalable, high-quality manufacturing for stationery, wall art, and home decor
- This individual is responsible for playing a key role in building strong relationships with our partners and managing the day-to-day details to make our wholesale programs successful
- Working cross-functionally is a critical part of the role
- You’ll also use your analytical and reporting skills to share key information to internal and external partners to help drive the business
- This position is remote and reports to the Senior Director, Major Partnerships
- Build new wholesale partnerships with retailers and cultivate impactful and existing relationships at both the Buyer and Executive levels while building sales roadmaps to expand each partnership over time
- Own the overall strategy for each partner and help shape the direction of the relationship
- Identify sales performance issues and opportunities early, communicate them to the team, propose hypotheses, and recommend clear next steps
- Act as a key cross-functional partner for our supply chain, analytics, finance, merchandising, and brand marketing teams, and able to effectively manage internal relationships
- Create presentations communicating the value proposition, sales strategy, and negotiation strategies for new partnerships
- Drive and track key success metrics, sharing out key insights from weekly sales data
- Actively document and improve wholesale processes to help the team scale more efficiently
- Consult with our brand team on branding for in-store signage and packaging
- Have a direct impact on helping to improve our products and displays by spending time in-stores to learn about our products, see how they are displayed, and provide feedback
Our take
Minted is a design marketplace, sourcing creative content from a global community of artists, using technology and crowdsourcing to give consumers access to independent creatives unavailable through traditional retailers.
With the success of sites like Etsy enabling consumers to buy direct from artisans, Minted sets itself apart by holding monthly art and design challenges which are open for both submission and voting. The ‘crowd’ curates Minted’s product selection by rating products, and Minted utilizes analytics to evaluate votes. The winning designs go into production which is taken care of by Minted's fulfillment house and the designers receive a 6%-10% cut of the sales.
Its unique ‘design by upvoting’ business model has led to almost $300m in funding, with backing from Benchmark Capital and IDG Ventures. As contests draw in more designers, the company is looking to expand beyond Minted.com and into physical retail, finding new ways to use the designs and creating fresh income streams for themselves and their artists.
