Who you are
- Comfortable working across the stack, on our Python (Flask) back-end hosted on AWS, as well as with our web-based front-end
- Excited by the idea of turning ideas into working software quickly, iterating based on feedback, and helping us get great products into the hands of educators without delay.
- Track record of delivering complex web-based software products

What the job involves
- Designing and building a survey platform used by school leaders to gather insights from their staff
- Developing a cutting-edge classroom simulator powered by large language models, to support teacher training and practice
- Refining the onboarding experience to ensure new schools get value from Steplab from day one
- Championing platform security, implementing best practices and proactively identifying areas for improvement
- Building our front-end migration from Jinja2 templates to a modern React + TypeScript architecture
- Collaborating closely with designers and engineers, taking ideas from concept through to production
- Mentoring junior engineers, fostering growth and best practices across the team
- Contributing to product strategy, helping steer the technical direction and long-term vision of Steplab

We think everyone who works at Steplab should have plenty of time to recharge and enjoy life outside of work. We only ask that holidays are kept to around two weeks maximum at a time, and that you’re considerate of when others on your team are on holiday.
- 🏢 We have an office near Highbury & Islington station. We tend to come in 2-3 days per week, but we’re flexible if you want to come in more or less than that. We ask that everyone is available to come to London once per month for an all-hands meeting. We are open to fully-remote candidates, but will prioritise those amenable to hybrid working.
