Role
Who you are
- 4+ years of QA engineering experience
- 2 years automated testing experience:
- Experienced in building code-based automation frameworks
- Experience with test automation/hands-on coding using Selenium and Java, or Cypress and JavaScript
- Experience with UI automation frameworks
- Professional SaaS experience (b2b); specifically working on customer and user-facing test experience
- Hands-on experience crafting test strategies, test plans, and test cases
- Efficient in effort estimation, planning, prioritization and time management
- Proactive communication skills, both sync and async
- Flexible and positive
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal direction
Desirable
- Experience with Playwright automation
- API testing experience
- Experience with Chrome extension automation
What the job involves
- With Writer, you'll be working closely with the product and the engineering team to ship a product that tens of thousands of people rely on every day
- As a QA automation engineer, you’ll be working on key parts of the QA process and defining key quality KPIs and metrics for the product
- You'll drive testing efforts and lead our automation strategies, and we'll look to you for leadership on maintaining the highest bar of quality possible for all releases
- This role reports to the Head of QA Engineering
- Work closely with development teams to create automation strategies and deployment processes
- Integrate automation testing protocols with existing code and engineering processes
- Design, develop, maintain and execute functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end tests
- Perform automated and manual testing efforts for Writer and our extensions/integrations
- Maintain and improve automation frameworks
- Proficient in troubleshooting, QA process, quality management tools, and methodologies
- Conduct operational and performance tests to confirm that the environment meets functional requirements, user expectations, and performance specifications
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to take initiative on assigned projects/tasks

With the likes of high-exposure company Grammarly accelerating adoption of such tools, a flurry of startups have appeared to offer their own takes. Writer’s angle is to leverage AI as a means of standardizing and scaling both content and communications for business teams. The tool offers autofilling and inline suggestions that keep content aligned with pre-determined company language and style guides.
This branded fine-tuning function distinguishes it from full copy-generation competitors, as well as from Grammarly itself, which is a more generalist copyediting tool. It subsequently caters to major enterprise clients looking to maintain standards across multiple and sprawling teams, and the company has managed to net major clients like Deloitte, Twitter, UiPath, and Accenture.
While AI-related buzz remains solidly around generative AIs like ChatGPT and Bard, Writer's narrow target market - in which it has already found success - supplies plenty of scope to grow, as AI copyediting tools look set to rapidly become content industry standard. With continued new launches and updates to its offerings as well as an impressive $100 million Series B awarded in 2023, the company is well-placed to seek further success into the future.
