Role
Who you are
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience developing for web or mobile platforms in React or React Native
- Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern React
- Familiarity with Next.js, SSR concepts, and frontend tooling
- Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive layouts, and accessibility basics
- Hands-on React Native experience building and shipping features
- Some experience with backend development is helpful, especially familiarity with designing simple APIs, understanding basic data flow, and contributing to light Go or GraphQL resolver work
- Knowledge of good design and UX
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code and collaborate effectively
- Experience in Node.js, Ruby on Rails, Golang, or Java is a plus
- Experience working on e-commerce or consumer-facing products is desirable
What the job involves
- Paperless Post is seeking a software engineer that specializes in the frontend to help develop our JavaScript application with more than five million unique visitors per month
- In this role, you’ll work within a dedicated and fully staffed feature team to build and maintain user-facing features and libraries that are essential for cross-functional development teams
- You’ll use your experience building performant, user-focused web applications to implement the tools and software that allow our users to create best-in-class event pages and greeting cards
- You will work with React, Redux, TypeScript, NextJS, and GraphQL to build a range of functionality helping users to create, send, and manage custom event pages
- Your contributions will make a meaningful impact on a complex consumer product used by millions of users
- This role will offer the opportunity to work across our product, including our web-based editor for designing dynamic web pages and our event management platform, which helps event hosts connect with their guests
- The PP Engineering team, a highly collaborative group of developers and technologists, is charged with building and refining a consumer-facing product that millions of people interact with each month
- The team you’ll be joining focuses on the highest priority projects across our product domains and is made up of engineers, product managers, QA, and product designers
- We prioritize creativity and continuing education, and our ongoing commitment to quality code shows in our pragmatic but brave approach to technology
- Develop and maintain our applications with reusable, testable, and resilient components that foster a consistent user experience
- Contribute to the design, development, and testing of React (TypeScript, NextJS), React Native, and GraphQL
- Ensure code quality and maintainability through participation in code reviews and testing
- Assist in writing user stories for new features
- Troubleshoot and debug software issues
- Actively participate in developing useful API contracts between Front End and Back End
- Coordinate with technical leads on best practices and align on implementation strategies
- Implement interfaces and queries between the Front End and Back End using GraphQL

Paperless Post first launched in 2009, and since then it has become a clear market leader in a field cluttered with fairly simple design and printing tools. Part of its success stems from its early adoption of mobile phones as a platform - while initially optimized for desktop use the company worked hard to develop its platform for mobile users. This has allowed Paperless Post to consolidate its growth in spite of market changes over the years.
Paperless Post is well-positioned to see considerable growth. It will need to continue to develop its partnerships and technology in order to fend off new competitors, however. Its unique designs and partnerships with brands such as Caroline Herrera go some way to achieving this, and its understanding of communication trends: switching to text message notifications rather than email as younger people abandon email as a way to communicate - indicate that the company is still ahead of the curve.
