Role
Who you are
- You have 8+ years of experience building cloud-scale data infrastructure or ML platforms
- You've contributed to AI-focused systems such as LLM APIs, RAG/GraphRAG, vector search, or knowledge graphs
- You've worked with vector and graph databases to support intelligent querying and semantic discovery
- You're hands-on with Spark, SQL, and Python and/or Scala with strong experience building scalable APIs and services
- You understand streaming systems such as Kafka or Flink and how to design for real-time insights
- You have experience with orchestration systems, CI/CD, and production monitoring
- You're interested in defining data product standards, governance-by-design, and AI observability metrics
- You thrive in cross-functional, collaborative environments and navigate evolving priorities effectively
- You're detail-oriented, curious, and passionate about building infrastructure people love to use

- The Data Platform team builds the foundation that powers everything from Stitch Fix's signature personalization to our most cutting-edge AI innovations
- We exist to make our data scientists and engineers wildly productive - by delivering fast, flexible, and trusted infrastructure that fuels experimentation, recommendations, insights, and a new generation of AI/ML-powered experiences
- As a Data Platform Engineer, you'll evolve Stitch Fix's modern data stack to support the next wave of AI/ML-powered products, analytics, and knowledge systems
- This is a high-impact individual contributor role on the Data Platform team
- You’ll help make our data platform easier to scale, easier to find information in, and more reliable as we build AI into our workflows
- You’ll work with teams across the company to make sure our systems can support smarter automation and deliver better insights
- Evolve our core data stack (Spark, Trino, Iceberg, Kafka, Flink) to meet the scale and latency demands of AI workloads
- Define and implement observability, lineage, and access standards for our data products and AI applications
- Support critical data pipelines while creating abstractions that simplify end-user interactions
- Unify workflows from data ingestion to model serving, ensuring a shared foundation for feature stores, ML observability, and semantic modeling
- Design and build foundational AI data capabilities supporting LLM orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG/GraphRAG), semantic data layers, and vectorized search
- Work with teams to build well-documented, AI-friendly datasets that power analytics, personalization, and better business decisions
Our take
Shopping online for clothes is not always a fun experience. Finding clothes you like is only half the battle. Sizing guides and return policies seem to have been designed to be challenging to understand, and can also vary wildly from company to company.
Stitchfix sets out to change this by making online clothes shopping personalized and hassle-free. Customers take a survey on their personal tastes, and pay a one-off fee for a stylist, to receive a box of 5 personalized items. Then, they simply pay for any items they keep, or return what they don't want free of charge. The stylists fee is deducted from the first purchase and if they keep all 5 items, they receive a discount.
Stitchfix's unique blend of technology, and human touch in styling, allows the company to deliver its personalized experience at scale, with its growing data sets putting them in a great place to predict consumer trends and preferences. Unfortunately, the company has been hit hard by the current economic climate - cutting staff back in June 2022 as well as again in early 2023. Only time will tell if this once exciting brand will be able to bounce back from this bump in the road and find success again in the future.
