Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in software development, with a demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous and rapidly-changing environments, with experience in launching and scaling of new products, especially in a 0-1 setting
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills to effectively engage and work along stakeholders from diverse disciplines and varying levels of technical expertise. Ideally, adept at translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for all audiences
- Experience with AI technologies, particularly in LLMs and machine learning
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and the full end-to-end process of modern software deployment (e.g., containerization, CI/CD)
- Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry is a plus, but not required

- As a Software Engineer supporting Emerging Products, you will play a key role in shaping the future of drug development at TrialSpark
- This position involves shaping the development of innovative software integrating technologies such as AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) to accelerate the drug development process
- In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and domain experts in the drug development field to build and implement systems that will significantly enhance the capacity of teams to make strategic and operational drug development decisions swiftly and effectively
- This position is ideal for the entrepreneurial-minded engineer who is passionate about leveraging technology for meaningful and impactful applications
- Your expertise in software development will be instrumental in driving TrialSpark’s mission to bring new treatments to patients faster and more efficiently
- Participate in the design, development, and deployment of software solutions that leverage AI and LLM technologies in the strategic drug development process
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers and domain experts, to build and iterate on innovative features and products
- Ensure the scalability, security, and performance of our software systems
- Rapidly develop and iterate on proofs-of-concept to test new ideas and hypotheses to efficiently validate and evolve our software solutions in alignment with strategic objectives in drug development
- Work with a team of engineers and stakeholder to deliver high quality, innovate products, and to iterate quickly and efficiently on new features
- Act as an internal evangelist for use of AI and LLMs, providing expert guidance and insights to other teams within the organization
Our take
Clinical drug trials are lengthy and expensive, delaying the supply of vital new drugs to patients and costing lives. For Formation Bio, this is an efficiency issue - one which it hopes to solve with its end-to-end automation solution.
According to the company, its approach has teams running medical trials twice as fast and at half the cost. This success has pushed Formation to expand beyond supporting trials into developing assets itself. In 2025, it reached a major milestone by licensing its first drug - a late-stage JAK/SYK inhibitor - to Sanofi in a deal worth up to hundreds of millions. Alongside this, the company has also added an early immunology program to its pipeline, signaling a broader push into in-house development.
Now a Unicorn, with partners including Pfizer, Sanofi, Novartis and 23andMe, Formation Bio is steadily embedding itself within the Big Pharma ecosystem. How far it can go remains an open question, but the prospect of cheaper drugs and faster innovation is becoming harder for the industry to ignore.
