Who you are
- This is a high-impact, early-career role ideal for someone with a commercial background who enjoys relationship-building, negotiating, and supporting business growth — without the traditional account executive path
- 2–3 years of experience in commercial or customer-facing roles (e.g., Renewal Manager, Account Manager, Territory Manager)
- Proven track record of closing new or expansion business, especially in high-trust or multi-stakeholder environments
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Comfortable leading in-person conversations and navigating decision-making dynamics
- Based in Austin, TX — this is an in-office and field-facing role
- Interest in growing within sales or partner success, but not on a traditional AE track
What the job involves
- We’re looking for an Account Manager to join our team in Austin, TX. In this role, you’ll help grow Mudflap’s merchant network by signing up new SMB partners and expanding existing relationships
- You'll work closely with fuel merchants to add new locations, negotiate pricing, and represent Mudflap at industry events and in-person meetings
- Sign up new fuel merchants and help existing partners expand their footprint on Mudflap
- Negotiate fuel discounts and pricing terms with new and current merchants
- Conduct outbound calls to engage prospective partners
- Lead in-person sales meetings with merchant stakeholders
- Attend and represent Mudflap at key industry conferences and events
Our take
Owner-operators make up 9% of the truckers on the road, in other words 680,000 small businesses forming the backbone of the U.S’s crucial trucking industry. However, only big fleets get major fuel discounts because they have large gallon volumes, leaving these self-employed truckers to pay full price.
Mudflap is bringing those savings to owner-operators & small fleets. When drivers sign up for the app, they join tens of thousands of users which Mudflap then leverages to drive sales for truck stops which offer discounts on fuel in return. It’s a smart model which massively simplifies the process for earning discounts compared to the old route of a fuel card which requires a credit check.
Stop managers could be sceptical about working with mobile payments in return for a promise of increased demand. However, the company provides its entire network with a Mudflap tablet through which to handle all payment transactions within the network, making it easy for whoever is behind the counter.
