Who you are
- Ownership, self-motivation, teamwork, and experience working in a fast-paced agile environment are highly desired
- The ideal candidate has experience managing technical teams, is technically strong, and can communicate technical ideas appropriately to different audiences
- Minimum of 3 years of team management experience
- Thought leader in principled delivery of software utilizing Node.js, React, Typescript - ideally with a broad area of interest spanning other similar/promising programming languages
- Proven grasp of engineering principles, a variety of common tools, patterns, algorithms/libraries and use cases, key trade-offs and systems design
- Confident intuition for both micro and macro level decision-making in software development
- Proven coding capabilities, demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical challenges
- Willingness to learn new patterns, languages, technologies and methodologies, aligning both with our Engineering culture and continuously evolving technology environment
- Good understanding of both microservices and monolith patterns with insight into choices and tradeoffs involved
- Experience with modern cloud platforms; AWS, GCP, Azure
- Good understanding of the HTTP stack and REST APIs
- Good understanding of databases and their tradeoffs
- Knowledge or experience with backend for front end design, especially in support of Android and iOS mobile applications
- Experience in Healthcare contexts is considered a plus but not a necessity
- Good understanding of security principles in software development broadly and as specifically applied to consumer-facing applications
What the job involves
- Upon joining our team, you’ll help develop the world-class technology platform at the heart of our engagement and behavior change platform. You’ll get to work with a diverse group of backend and frontend (mobile and web) developers, data scientists and product managers to design, implement and govern product features that reach the hands of thousands of users
- We expect you will deliver solutions that are holistically correct, efficient, secure and maintainable
- As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring a high level of developer quality and productivity as well as effective collaboration across other teams and projects within engineering and cross-functionally
- Reporting To: Director of Engineering
- Own substantial workstreams, including both new user-facing features and improvements on our existing services ecosystem
- As an Engineering Manager, you will be managing a team of software professionals, and prioritizing high-level work
- You will also be representing the Typescript team in organizational process discussions and projects
- Collaborate with a team of mobile, backend and data science practitioners as well as product and delivery managers to create and deliver a seamless, tailored experience for our users
- Contribute substantially to platform architectural decisions and enhance our team’s ability to make correct decisions that stand the test of time
- Help build and maintain internal administrative applications that support core functioning of our technology platform
- Help us achieve operational excellence in the software development by participating in and leading code reviews, quality assurance, and production monitoring
- Take personal responsibility for keeping all Well systems and data, including sensitive member data, secure and safe, according to Well data and security policies and HIPAA guidelines
Our take
Mobile health-tracking apps have become popular over the last decade, but existing platforms often provide uniform services as opposed to personalizing each user's experience. In addition to this, incentives to regularly use an app are generally focused on mobile notifications and manual tracking systems, features that require manual data entry and are easy to ignore.
Well provides a digital health platform that leverages member health data to provide users with a personalized and all-in-one platform for improving their health. Instead of relying on notifications and uniform systems, member data is used to deliver daily health recommendations from AI clinicians, loyalty rewards, and direct support tools.
With many apps on the market for different health points, the digital health tracking landscape is very saturated, yet Well is taking a unified approach to providing personalized and authentic experiences for users. The platform aims to provide guidance that is actionable and engaging, as opposed to just another mobile app that is used on an occasional health kick.
