Who you are
- Compensation Expertise: 10+ years experience in compensation, with expertise in general compensation practices and 3+ years expertise in executive compensation and equity compensation
- Analytical Expertise: Strong analytical and technical skills for compensation analysis and modeling, including Gsheets and Excel
- Program and Project Management: Proven ability to manage compensation programs and projects from design through implementation and ongoing management, creating structure, consistency, and documentation
- Partnership Skills: Strong collaboration and influence skills to work effectively with senior stakeholders
- Communication: Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences

- Public company and/or IPO experience
- Experience with Workday compensation
- Experience in virtual-first engagement and connection
- Experience in tech or fast-paced startup environment
What the job involves
- As the Senior Compensation Manager, reporting directly to the Sr. Director of HR Operations and Compensation, you will provide functional expertise as part of our team of two compensation professionals.
- You will partner with the Sr. Director to develop Thumbtack’s compensation strategy. You will be directly responsible for key operational processes, leading compensation plan design, including cash and equity, for all levels of the organization and ensuring successful execution of compensation processes, projects, analytics, and reporting.
- This role will also be responsible for development and preparation of materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors.
- As an experienced compensation expert, you will collaborate with People and Business leaders across Thumbtack to position our compensation and talent strategies for long-term success
- Compensation Strategy: Advise and execute on our compensation strategy to drive our talent strategy and meet business needs
- Operational Excellence: Drive operational excellence and program management for recurring compensation team activities (cycles, Compensation Committee meetings, market benchmarking, executive compensation)
- Projects and Analytics: Lead special projects and strategic analyses to adapt to new talent needs and changing environments and ensure we remain competitive and innovative
- Consultative Partnership: Partner and consult with business leaders and HR Partners on compensation programs and challenges to support departmental needs and talent strategies
- Communication and Education: Lead company-wide communications and provide employee and manager education to support compensation programs, processes, and pay transparency

Instead of simply searching for a professional, users provide ThumbTack with details of the job they need completing and the professionals then pitch their services to the potential customer using credits. ThumbTack makes its money by charging the professional for these credits.
It positions itself as something a little different in a saturated local services space that is dominated by companies like Angie’s List, TaskRabbit, Yelp, eBay, and Amazon. It also focuses on a broad range of professionals, from traditional home services like electricians and painters to photographers, personal trainers, and birthday party magicians.
The COVID-19 pandemic saw a boost in business for ThumbTack as more people stayed at home and made changes to their properties, increasing the demand for home professionals. In fact, after 2019, the company doubled in value to $3.2 billion with its 2021 raise. Now its updated app has 30 new features, and the company is partnering with the likes of trade-powering platform and Unicorn ServiceTitan, indicating Thumbtack's sustained sway in the market.
