Role
Who you are
- The role requires someone who has a proven track record in breaking into major Government Departments such as HMRC, DWP, DSIT, MOJ, Home Office etc
- The role is ideally suited for someone who has experience working with hyperscalers, GSIs and the ecosystem around Public Sector that supports being able to develop and drive strategic engagement and multi-year contracts
- We expect you to bring high competence in all areas of Enterprise Sales such as targeted outreach, Value Selling, MEDDPICC, negotiation and ability to present to senior stakeholders. Candidate needs to demonstrate strong Account Planning discipline
- It will be valued if you can demonstrate an existing strong network and current engagements in the Public Sector community such as Forums and Special Interest Groups
- Experience in quota-carrying sales roles in a competitive market with a focus on the Public Sector
- Prior experience in Big Data, AI, Consumption, Cloud, SaaS, Open Source, or Enterprise IT Solutions/Applications
- Previous sales methodology training (i.e. MEDDPICC, Challenger, Command of the Message etc.)
- Prior experience in leading and executing a highly complex sales strategy to increase and drive revenue growth
- Consistent track record of success and history of overachieving and hitting quota attainment
- Ability to articulate, educate, and sell the business value to the Public Sector and communicate same with the partner ecosystem
- Adept at working in changing environments (given how fast the AI & data space is evolving) and embrace the opportunity to be part of the change
- Exceptional skills in relationship-building, customer relations, and negotiation skills
- Open to Travel to customer locations as needed
- BS/BA degree or equivalent preferred
- Security Clearance preferred
What the job involves
- As a member of the Confluent Sales Team, the Public Sector Enterprise Account Executive is responsible for selling Confluent solutions to the UK Central Government
- Responsible for driving revenue growth in large, complex, and highly visible Public Sector bodies
- The role requires opening up new areas of business for Confluent. This is not just about maintaining existing accounts
- Developing Pipeline Plans and execution is key to success
- Leading, driving, and executing a strategic complex sales cycle with responsibility for demonstrating the value of Confluent at C-Level
- Must be able to map Confluents Offerings to that Government Dept Key objectives and challenges and demonstrate a level of appreciation of the Public Sector to develop a Trusted Advisor relationship
- Develop a deep understanding of your customers, their strategies, and business goals to become a trusted advisor
- Work closely with our partner ecosystem teams to sell to or through the ecosystem
- Align closely with our Solutions Engineering team on technical wins, Professional Services to deliver world-class customer experience, and Customer Success Management to identify and close expansion opportunities and renewals
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time. The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
Now, it looks like IBM is eyeing the company for acquisition and Confluent looks to be a natural fit. Long positioned as the real-time backbone behind modern application, Confluent would gain global scale and an even deeper enterprise reach under iBM, while cementing its role at the center of AI-driven architectures. For COnfluent, the deal would marka shift from fast-growing independent disruptor to foundational infrastructure player powering the next wave of enterprise AI.
