Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate for this role will have previous experience training and evaluating machine learning models
- Strong foundations in statistics and machine learning
- Comfort working with the Python ecosystem and popular ML libraries and tools (e.g. PyTorch, sklearn, numpy, matplotlib)
Desirable
- Experience working with datasets of text, audio, image, and/or video data
- Experience collecting human rating data
- Familiarity with the latest large language model APIs (e.g., GPT-4, Claude-2)
- Familiarity with the Huggingface environment
- Large-scale data processing pipelines
- Experience with multimodal research

- Hume AI is seeking a dedicated and talented individual interested in working as part of our AI research team to advance our core mission: using the world’s most advanced technology for emotion understanding to build empathy and goal-alignment into AI
- Join us in the heart of New York City as a research intern and contribute to our endeavor to ensure that AI is guided by human values, the most pivotal challenge (and opportunity) of the 21st century
- In this role, you will help with data collection, training, and evaluating state-of-the-art multimodal models
- You will build out benchmarking tools and work directly with our research team to adapt our analysis pipelines to the latest improvements in our models
- You will have the opportunity to contribute directly to Hume's developer platform

Hume AI was founded by a researcher in semantic space theory - a data-driven, computational approach to emotional science that has been pivotal in the development of artificial intelligence.
The company has developed products that help AI become more emotionally intelligent, effectively fine-tuning everything from digital assistants to online creative tools to respond appropriately to human emotion. To do this, it uses complex measurements to analyse vocal timbre, pitch and facial expressions.
