Role
Who you are
- Design Expertise: 5+ years of experience leading product design teams, with a proven track record and a portfolio that showcases impactful, user-centered software products
- Design Driven Outcomes: A strong grasp of design fundamentals, systems thinking, usability, and interaction design. You drive measurable outcomes through design and are fluent in leveraging various design systems and tools (e.g. Figma)
- Developer Awareness: A deep understanding of the modern software developers world, including the tools they use, their workflows, and the challenges they face, enabling you to design solutions that genuinely support their needs
- Design Leadership: Proven experience mentoring and growing design teams. You foster a culture of experimentation, accountability, and collaboration, and advocate for design through clear storytelling and influence at all levels
- Collaborative Mindset: Ability to thrive in remote, globally distributed teams. You bring others along, align across disciplines, and build momentum around shared goals
- Empathy and Adaptability: You approach problems from multiple angles, designing inclusive solutions that reflect a wide range of user needs and experiences
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously seeks opportunities to refine workflows, improve efficiency, and elevate the design practice as a whole
What the job involves
- As Director of Product Design, you shape the creative vision and user desirability of our entire product portfolio
- Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, you lead all product design efforts and guide a team of talented designers to deliver intuitive, impactful experiences that empower our users
- You partner equally with Product Management and Engineering in our 3-in-a-box model, ensuring design is embedded in every step of the product journey
- Through mentorship and problem-solving, you support your team in tackling complex challenges
- You own our user research program and design system, and champion the adoption of design thinking across the product lifecycle
- Your deep experience in iterative interaction design for technical users informs every decision
- You bring a strong understanding of the challenges facing modern software developers and use that insight to advocate for exceptional user experiences
- Your leadership balances hands-on design work with strategic direction, enabling the team to move quickly without compromising quality
- You thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments
- You know how to integrate user feedback into the design process, mentor with intention, and lead with clarity and confidence
- Your impact ensures our design practice not only elevates the product, but also drives business success
- User Experience Advocate: Champion exceptional user experiences by weaving usability, accessibility, and aesthetics into every product interaction
- Product Leadership: Partner closely with product management and fellow product leaders to shape and iterate the roadmap, ensuring solutions are desirable, feasible, and viable
- Design Team Leadership: Set clear objectives, establish efficient workflows, and foster a culture of collaboration and creative excellence
- Design Process: Oversee the end-to-end design process, from ideation to implementation, ensuring cohesive, user-centered outcomes
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align design strategy with technical realities, market dynamics, and business goals. Confidently challenge and influence product and engineering decisions to foster healthy, constructive tension
- User Research: Evolve and scale our user research programs and processes, embedding real user feedback into every stage of the product development process

Platform.sh makes it easier for web developers to build websites and apps without having to worry about maintaining web infrastructure – something that’s become increasingly complex on the cloud. Using the platform, developers can deploy sophisticated, out of the box architectures and infrastructures.
There’s been a lot of activity in the lucrative Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) market over the last few years. Indeed, the market is growing at nearly 20% annually, with companies like Heroku and Vercel doing very well. However, with a large customer base that includes Orange, Adobe, Nestlé, and The Financial Times, Platform.sh is doing more than just holding its own.
After a major funding round in 2022, which was led by Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital, the company has continued to rapidly grow its globally distributed workforce, with a keen eye on expanding further in the US as well as Western Europe.
