Role
Who you are
- We are looking for a seasoned and passionate Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in a scaling organisation and is adept at managing large-scale data projects
- As a growing team, the ideal candidate will have experience growing and leading teams, complex projects, and scaling both engineering teams and businesses as a whole
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field such as Maths or Physics
- 5+ years of proven experience in an Engineering role, with a focus on backend systems and data
- Extensive experience in backend engineering, including experience with big data technologies
- Strong expertise in programming languages such as Javascript, Typescript (NodeJS) or Python
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with database technologies like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL databases
- Expertise in data pipeline and workflow management tools
- Experience with cloud services like AWS or Google Cloud Platform. Here at GEEIQ, our stack runs on AWS
- Knowledge of data streaming technologies like Apache Kafka or AWS Kinesis
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor junior team members and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders

- As a Senior Backend Engineer with a focus on data at GEEIQ, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable and robust backend systems, ensuring an efficient and reliable flow of data across our platforms
- This position demands a thorough understanding of backend architecture, data modelling, and API development for data access and manipulation
- The ideal candidate will blend deep technical expertise with leadership and communication skills to drive projects and team success
- Backend Development:
- Design and implement efficient, scalable, and reliable backend systems
- Optimise data processing and automate routine tasks to improve data throughput and quality
- Data Pipeline and Database Management:
- Develop and maintain data pipelines
- Manage and optimise SQL and NoSQL databases, ensuring data integrity and performance
- Implement and maintain data lakes and storage solutions
- API Development and Integration:
- Build APIs for data access and manipulation to be used by web and mobile applications
- Integrate with external data sources and APIs to enhance our data capabilities
- Data Quality and Governance:
- Implement systems to monitor and ensure the quality and accuracy of data
- Work closely with the data governance team to implement policies and best practices
- Collaboration and Project Leadership:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and meet data requirements
- Lead data-related projects, including planning, execution, and delivery
- Innovation and Strategy:
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in backend and data engineering
- Contribute to the strategic planning of data initiatives and improvements
- GEEIQ’s Stack:
- Serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, AWS Event Bridge)
- CI/CD pipelines using Github Actions
