Who you are

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
8+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on building and optimizing data pipelines, data architecture, and eventing systems
Extensive experience with AWS cloud platform and their data-related services
Proficiency in automation frameworks (e.g., Terraform, Cloud Formation)
Proficiency in data lake and pipeline tools and frameworks (e.g., Databricks, Apache Kafka/Kinesis, AWS Glue)
Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Java)
Strong understanding of SQL (e.g. Redshift, Snowflake, RDS) and NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB) and experience in enabling analytical queries on these platforms
Experience with search optimization, including schema design and query tuning
Experience in building CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks (e.g. dbt), and best practices in data engineering
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues
Ability to independently own and execute projects while effectively collaborating with the team to influence and shape the vision of the data engineering organization
Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers

What the job involves

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing data services and pipelines, ensuring that our data services support the needs of the business
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable operational data analysis, enhance eventing systems, and develop tools that empower our data and services teams
Your expertise will also be critical in driving 100% automation, best practices, creating scalable architectures, and optimizing our data environments.This role is eligible for fully remote and will report into our Director of Data Engineering - Platform Engineering

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.

Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.

While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
