Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent practical experience
- Proven experience with computer systems and hardware, including detailed knowledge of CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, and other accelerators
- Strong understanding of Linux operating systems, including OS configuration, optimization, and administration
- Hands-on experience with system software including drivers, firmware, and hardware-related software tools
- Familiarity with electrical systems as related to computer hardware, including wiring, cabling, and cooling solutions
- Technical proficiency with virtualization technologies, such as virtual machines and containers
- Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues efficiently and provide actionable solutions
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, capable of working directly with clients to understand and meet their technical needs

What the job involves
- We are seeking a skilled and experienced Field Application Engineer to join our Customer Success team
- The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in deploying and optimizing cutting-edge computer systems and AI hardware
- If you have a passion for hardware technologies, including accelerators, CPUs, GPUs, and thrive in a dynamic, hands-on technical environment, we would love to hear from you
- Provide technical expertise and support for our computer systems and hardware products, focusing on system installation, configuration, and optimization
- Work closely with customers to implement and integrate hardware solutions into their existing infrastructure, ensuring compatibility and high performance
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, firmware, and software issues related to systems, AI accelerators, and OS platforms, primarily Linux
- Conduct rigorous testing and validation of hardware and system performance to ensure stability and efficiency
- Train clients and end-users on new technologies and hardware setups, including the use of virtual machines, containers (e.g., Docker), and job scheduling tools like Slurm
- Develop and maintain documentation related to system configurations, processes, and service records
- Collaborate with engineering teams to provide feedback on products and to discuss potential improvements or custom solutions
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends and technologies, particularly in areas like firmware updates, driver optimizations, and hardware accelerators
Our take
Advances in artificial intelligence apps, combined with a global chip shortage, are strong tailwinds for chip processor Tenstorrent. The semi-conducter developer is designing specialized chips for running artificial intelligence applications, building chips for what it calls "software 2.0".
The company’s unique approach is to build for this future software, which it believes will be written at a higher level. Combining this with conditional computing, Tenstorrent supports a scalable distributed network approach that is analogous to a human brain.
While the market for specialised AI hardware is destined to be gigantic, the company has to compete with a plethora of hopeful startups (as well as major tech companies like NVIDIA and Qualcomm). That said, Tenstorrent boasts an excellent trajectory so far, with its latest moves including unveiling its high-end Wormhole AI processors, and a partnership with LG which will see the development of chips for "Affectionate Intelligence".
