Who you are
- We are looking for a thoughtful, well-rounded Android engineer to join our team
- A solid understanding of modern Android development
- Know how to write readable, maintainable, performant object-oriented Java & Kotlin
- Experienced with Android development tools, and are willing to follow defined coding guidelines and practices
- You care about quality and you know what it means to ship high quality code
- You value team success over personal success, and shared understanding over silos of information
- You have a high level understanding of end to end systems
- You have released at least one app or have a project in the works that you can tell us about
- You have at least 2+ years of professional Android experience
What the job involves
- You will play a leading role in our mobile engineering practice, implementing new features, improving performance, and building accessible, beautiful user interfaces, and building reusable libraries and components.
- Above all, your work will change the way our listeners engage with the free Spotify experience. If you want to make an impact and be challenged then come be a part of an exciting new team
- Build and maintain innovative ad formats that enable listeners to experience free music and podcast listening on Spotify
- Collaborate with a small, autonomous team of engineers (Android, iOS, Desktop), designers, and product managers and data scientists, to experiment and build great ad experiences
- Implement these solutions for our Android client, adhering to Android development best practices
- Write clear, maintainable code that will scale across several projects and distributed development teams
- Help your team solve problems in a way that makes sense for Android users and our codebase
- Join dozens of other developers and help to shape the direction of Android development at Spotify
- Become a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional team

Spotify was founded in an attempt to combat the rampant music piracy that was causing significant harm to the industry. The company has since taken music streaming mainstream and now has 180m+ paying subscribers across the world.
With features that include a highly accessible interface and a vast catalogue of artists, Spotify's strong brand has been able to maintain growth in spite of fierce competition from deep-pocketed rivals like Amazon and Apple. The company has achieved this by making smart acquisitions to move into other verticals to strengthen its offerings, especially podcasting, by acquiring Gimlet Media, Anchor and Parcast.
Spotify's future plans include rapid growth with a goal to become a one-stop destination for all digital sound, as well as AI and NFT integrations. However, high costs incurred from the acquisition of exclusive podcasts, increasing competitor strength, and weak bottom-line growth mean that the company must find a balance to maintain its position in the sector.
