Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience building and managing technical teams, including hiring and mentoring developers
- Experience managing mixed engineering organizations including local, remote, and vendor resources
- A proactive problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced environments and has a track record of making sound judgments under pressure
- Experience developing customer-facing applications across a variety of technologies and platforms, including native clients, browser/web, server applications, and game and UI frameworks like Unity and Flutter
- Experience collaborating with, and giving guidance to, technical leads, with a strong track record of building and growing healthy, productive engineering teams
- An excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A proven ability to facilitate consensus across cross-functional teams
- Adaptability and resilience to navigate rapidly changing business circumstances
- A results-driven mindset with a focus on achieving goals and objectives
- Comprehension of a variety of Software Development Life Cycle practices including Agile/Scrum
- Team Management
- Proven experience as a team lead or manager in a software development environment
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with a focus on fostering collaboration and promoting a positive work culture
- Proven experience in coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members
- Identify training and development needs and coordinate appropriate learning opportunities
What the job involves
- We are seeking a Director of Engineering for our My Math Academy organization, this person will report directly to our VP of Engineering and have overall responsibility for the engineering team across platforms and technologies.
- Provide technical leadership expertise to lead and manage a team of engineers and engineering managers across multiple disciplines – native client, server, network, database, web, and tools
- Build, lead, motivate a high performing development team
- Interface with creative teams to provide solutions for feature requests within limits set by company stakeholders
- Responsible for making swift and effective decisions to drive our business forward
- Communicate decisions clearly and concisely to stakeholders, ensuring understanding and alignment
- Monitor the outcomes of decisions and adapt strategies as needed to optimize results
- Architect, drive, and oversee long and short-term technology solutions for client and server application software
- Contribute to the technology platforms, libraries, systems, and tooling used by our engineering team(s)
- Work with product owners to plan, scope, and schedule user-focused solutions for technical and implementation challenges
- Collaborate and facilitate communication both locally and with hybrid/remote development teams
- Evangelize and support the rollout of new technologies, libraries, and development techniques
- Evaluate current staffing needs and participate in recruiting initiatives and interview processes
- Contribute to emerging training strategies and career development initiatives
