Who you are

- At least 5 years of professional iOS development experience
- Experience coding with modern mobile software design patterns (MVVM, etc)
- Experience leveraging modern iOS paradigms/tools (RxSwift, Combine, Swift Package Manager)
- Well versed in the Human Interface Guidelines and Apple’s design patterns. You know what feels right to iOS customers and what smells
- A penchant for writing clean, reusable, and performant code
- You have next year's WWDC marked in your calendar once this year's end
- You've worked on a small, highly collaborative team
- One of your apps is currently in the App Store
- Experience with StoreKit and In App Purchases. Bonus points if you intimately understand the App Store subscription lifecycle
- Experience unit testing
- You've shipped one or more features using SwiftUI
- Interest in the privacy or communications space
What the job involves
- Scoping, building, and testing new features for the Burner iOS application. You will work closely with design, product manager, and cross functional teams of engineers to lead projects
- Maintaining and improving existing infrastructure, and be willing to jump in when things break
- Act as the iOS expert in design sessions, refining product ideas to best fit the iOS experience
- Brainstorming potential features to align with company strategy. We believe good ideas come throughout the organization and will give you the support to make your idea a reality
- Work with junior team members as the technical lead on projects and as a mentor
Our take
Whilst burner phones have an understandably shady reputation, the ability to make and receive calls & texts whilst protecting your personal information has a broad and by-the-book range of use cases. Not only does it promote better security when giving out your number - say for online dating, or putting up Craigslist ads - it also tallies with a broader push towards data protection more generally.
The Burner app, started by Ad Hoc Labs back in 2012, has been offering this service long before data privacy became a hot-button topic. The app reroutes incoming calls to a temporary number purchased by users, and it is then forwarded to their device.
Burner appears to have been growing steadily since launching back in 2012, adding features like the ‘GhostBot’ and inter-app connectivity. It remains one of the go-to burner number apps, in a market that has been growing since its launch. With competitors like Hushed and CoverMe offering more options globally, and Sideline offering its service for free, Burner may have to stay focused on sharpening its offerings to stay ahead.
