Who you are
- You are someone who cares about code quality and craft but also has an intrinsic motivation to deliver value to the customer and knows how to balance both
- Ideally, you are a full-stack engineer who can demonstrate a general knowledge of various technologies and how those should be applied in multiple scenarios when designing features or systems

- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience with our client-side tech stack: Typescript, SASS, Web Components, Shopify
- Experience with our server-side tech stack: Typescript, DynamoDB, AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and Serverless Framework
- Experience designing and building products or major features from concept to launch
- Experience with unit and end-to-end testing (e.g. Jest)
- Comfortable operating in environments subject to regulatory, compliance, and risk-based security requirements
- Effective communicator in teams of technical and non-technical individuals (product, marketing, subject matter experts, etc.)
- Engage engineers to support a culture of collaboration and inclusion through mentorship, respectful code review, and dedication to quality
- You are excited to share and learn from your teammates about crafting fantastic user experiences
- You are passionate about voicing your opinions and can be humble in receiving feedback
- You have a track record of trying and learning new things and are unafraid to learn through failures
What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer, you are an experienced software engineer excited about building innovative next-generation social good platforms to empower nonprofits to do their world-changing work
- In this role, you “own” the technical quality, execution, and delivery of user stories
- Bring your software and full-stack experience to collaborate with a close-knit engineering team building social good platforms
- Responsible for the writing and testing code and infrastructure that produces the application
- Work closely with members of your team to ensure design and implementation meet product needs
- Help architect, design, and implement reusable, well-tested software components
- Proactively review the code of others, providing feedback on design and implementation choices
- Collaborate with other engineers and subject matter experts early and often throughout development to ensure sound architecture design decisions, provide a delightful customer experience, and raise money for charities that impact the world
- Follow code standards and best practices for their given platform
- Work with Product Owners and UX/Designers to ensure complete and proper implementation
- Ensure the security, integrity and resilience of the application

Our take
Omaze is a charity fundraising platform that offers donors the chance to win high-value luxury items through donations. Each sweepstake benefits a particular non-profit and offers a prize such as a mansion, holiday, or sports car. Omaze has found success by pioneering a new model for fundraising that combines philanthropy with the chance of winning a life-changing prize.
The platform initially started with celebrity-backed campaigns where bidders could win once-in-a-lifetime experiences with celebrities. But they pivoted towards high-ticket items that they could select and control more easily. The company has had recent success fundraising for more than 350 causes, including Teen Cancer, Meals on Wheels, Comic Relief, and Make-A-Wish.
Other platforms exist in the space, including Prizeo, but these have maintained their focus on celebrity experiences whilst Omaze no longer offers this service. Since its success, Omaze has been criticized for only donating around 17% of the money raised to the charitable cause – but the company has responded by saying that the rest of the money is used to purchase the item, market the prize draw, and manage the company's overheads. Looking forward, Omaze aims to generate $1 billion for charity and plans to expand into Europe and Asia.
