Who you are
- You have bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Professional accounting certification such as Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) or equivalent
- You can create reports and analyses using Excel and associated accounting software like Oracle
- Big 4 or mid-tier trained in assurance
- 1 to 2 years post qualified experience in industry would be a bonus
- It would be a bonus if you have experienced the year-end financial process including coordination with the external audit team, tax advisors and sign-off on the local financial statements across all jurisdictions
- Experience in payroll would also be a bonus
What the job involves
- As Financial Accountant (EMEA) in the Riot Games Dublin office you will support senior leadership in Europe by managing reporting, compliance and processes
- You will handle preparation of statutory statements and assist with annual fiscal audits in an EMEA environment with a broad awareness of financial and legal implications
- You will report to the Accounting Manager
- Your rock-solid judgment and integrity will help you keep everyone on the right track while you work to set up and maintain best-in-class processes and systems
- This is a 4 month contract role that will cover paternity leave within our Dublin office, it will be based on site in our Dublin team
- Participate in all activities related to full-cycle accounting, including building journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing monthly reporting packages, answering questions from the central accounting team and researching and resolving discrepancies
- Drive the entire year-end financial process including coordination with the external audit team, tax advisors and sign-off on the local financial statements across all jurisdictions
- Responsible for a number of Riot subsidiary companies and their compliance. This will require cross collaboration across various teams such as Talent, Legal, Treasury and others
- Research unusual transactions and follow up with other groups to get more information. Discuss the findings with the accounting team to conclude on the proper accounting treatment
- Maintain a tight monthly reporting schedule according to established time-frames
- Investigate fluctuations and monitor trends in the accounts. Work with other teams to gain a deep understanding of the story behind the movements
- Speak for the numbers, answering finance-related questions through exploratory data analyses and ad-hoc reporting
- This role requires a high attention to detail and the ability to analyze financial data to identify trends and inform business decisions
- You have clear and fact driven communication skills and know how to keep stakeholders informed and working towards your end goals
Our take
Riot Games has grown into one of the world’s most prominent online and mobile game developers, due in large part to the success of its 2009 flagship title League of Legends which hosts just under seventy million users every month.
Riot is riding the wave of online gaming growth, having made a well timed switch from PC-only into mobile-based gaming, as capitalising on the rising popularity of esports, with the League of Legends World Championships one of the most watched events in the space.
However, adding further titles to its resume will be key to building on its success, as League of Legends was its only offering for the best part of a decade. Since being acquired by Chinese tech giant Tencent in 2011, the company has grown significantly in Asian markets, opening its Shanghai Game Studio in 2021 and expanding its China Game Studio Group in 2022. These two hubs will help Riot Games make further inroads in a country where PC gaming is already huge and continues to grow.
Regardless of League of Legends' success both online and in live arenas, the company nevertheless experienced a round of layoffs internationally that amounted to 11% of its workforce. Pair that with legal troubles in 2024 concerning the company’s partnership with now bankrupt crypto exchange FTX, and Riot Games appears to be in a period of transition. Thanks to the strength of its gaming products, however, Riot will no doubt maintain a comfortable position within the gaming world.
