Who you are

The ideal candidate will be someone who wants to become a generalist, gaining experience in a full-stack development role
A passion for playing mobile and online games
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
Passion for mobile and online games
Experience with TypeScript, React, PHP, Java
Bonus: Experience with Redis, Memcache, Docker, and Ansible would be highly beneficial
Bonus: F2P game development experience

What the job involves

Big Viking Games is on the hunt for a Junior Software Engineer to join our Technology team!
Reporting to our Director of Engineering, you'll be working alongside other developers on our two flagship games, YoWorld and FishWorld
Write robust, efficient, and maintainable code in Java, TypeScript, and PHP
Write efficient SQL statements and work with MySQL
Write tools in JavaScript and Javascript libraries
Participate in code reviews and provide/receive feedback from other developers
Use performance profilers, such as memory analyzers, CPU profilers and network sniffers to improve our existing code
Solve and troubleshoot bugs in production

Our take

Big Viking Games has been betting on HTML5 as the online social game developing language of choice for years. Now, with the decline of Adobe Flash, that bet has come good. In fact, some pitch Big Viking Games’ language of choice as the future of online social gaming, as it makes for embeddable, frictionless games that bypass the hefty commissions of app stores. So it’s perhaps curious why Big Viking Games have yet to expand their game portfolio beyond the two major hits they created years ago.

There are indications that Big Viking Games is working on a new mobile project, which would be significant, and clues suggest the project will engage with the blockchain and crypto space, which would be even more so.

Blockchain games look set to soar in popularity in the coming years, and with Big Viking Games’ strong but ageing portfolio such a novel and potentially game-changing project could prove a hugely lucrative hit.
