Who you are
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in marketing, with at least 8 years in a senior leadership role
- Demand generation and performance marketing expertise, creating and scaling multi-channel demand generation programs that efficiently acquire high volumes of customers
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration a related field or equivalent relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in driving marketing transformations in SaaS and product-led organizations
- Proven ability to lead through change, setting a clear vision and strategy while inspiring teams to embrace transformation and deliver results
- Proven track record in scaling organizations and driving growth initiatives
- Strong strategic thinking and planning skills with a focus on alignment with business objectives. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead a marketing function that prioritizes internal capability-building over relying heavily on agencies
- Proficient in using data analytics, AI-driven tools, and marketing technology platforms to inform strategies, track performance, and guide decision-making
What the job involves
- The VP of Marketing is responsible for creating and executing a marketing strategy to enhance business growth and customer impact
- As a key leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional leaders, champion product-led growth, and promote a culture of innovation
- You will create a transformative vision to ensure marketing initiatives align with the needs of our customers to make Wave the number one choice
- Create, implement and deliver a marketing strategy and vision that achieves Wave’s goals and the evolving needs of customers to maximize impact on business growth
- Lead cross-collaboration with key stakeholders across the company to ensure marketing objectives align with organizational goals
- Champion a product-led growth approach, ensuring marketing strategies integrate with product initiatives, focused on adoption, retention and conversion within our ecosystem
- Lead a high-performing and accountable Marketing Function by mentoring, coaching and enabling strong leaders across Brand & Communications, Marketing Operations, Acquisition, and Growth Marketing
- Build and refine operational frameworks to bring clarity, accountability, and consistent execution to marketing initiatives
- Empower a culture of experimentation, innovation, and agility to adapt to evolving market dynamics and challenges
- Lead the marketing teams goal setting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and team planning, in collaboration with functional leadership
- Oversee marketing operations to ensure the right martech tools are in place for the company’s needs and budget and ensure they are integrated effectively
- Establish metrics and KPIs to track the effectiveness of marketing efforts
- Leverage data to improve customer acquisition, demand generation, and partner engagement
- Manage department budget to ensure optimization of marketing's paid tools, resources, vendors, and agencies and maximize on ROI
Our take
Over 90% of all businesses in North America are zero to five employee companies. These businesses are organising their finances either by paying an expensive accountant, or relying on traditional spreadsheets.
In response, Wave is democratising access to financial services software. While they are not the first to do this, they have taken the flourishing approach of giving away the invoicing and accounting software 100% for free.
The company instead makes money by embedding financial services products within the software. It's these payments and other revenue streams that the startup is now looking to expand to secure more revenue to scale.
While the company has had success so far with its tools, it will need to build a whole suite of products and services in order to compete with the accounting software giants like Xero.
