Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in content production or show development and thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment
- 5+ years of experience in project management, production management, or program operations in a content-focused environment (television, streaming, digital media)
- Strong production, show experience or content development experience with a proven ability to track complex projects through multiple phases
- Expertise in creating systems and workflows that support cross-functional teams
- Leadership – Demonstrated ability to lead projects and act as a role model for the department
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Must be a strong relationship builder who leads with influence and establishes trust
- Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools, including demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Slack, and Microsoft Teams, with advanced Excel capabilities (modeling, data analysis, complex formulas, pivot tables, dashboards) and proven experience preparing high-impact presentation decks

What the job involves
- CNN is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support our Content and Talent Development teams
- This role will report to the EVP and will be responsible for creating and managing systems that streamline workflows for original content projects, enhance cross-departmental collaboration, and ensure timely execution of projects
- Build and manage operational systems for the Content and Talent Development departments, including workflow tracking for:
- All projects with internal and external partners
- Cross-functional initiatives with Sales, Streaming/Digital, Research, Marketing, Finance, and People & Culture
- Internal production and recruitment activities
- Design and maintain a master calendar of meetings, deadlines, and deliverables for Original Series stakeholders across CNN
- Track assignments and project milestones, ensuring priorities are aligned and deadlines are consistently met
- Develop shared tools and dashboards to provide visibility into department priorities, active projects, and progress updates
- Facilitate cross-team collaboration and communication between internal and external partners to keep projects moving efficiently
Our take
Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) is an entertainment company formed from the 2022 merger of Warner Bros and Discovery. It is a leader in the creation, production, distribution, licensing, and marketing of content, with Warner Bros alone boasting a huge library – more than 100,000 hours of programming – before the companies were joined. WBD’s portfolio includes Discovery Channel, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Discovery+, HBO Max, and franchises like “Batman” and “Harry Potter”.
Both of the company’s previous businesses have operated throughout the digitisation of the media space. David Zaslav, CEO of WBD, headed Discovery during its expansion into digital media, to make it a “content company” over a “cable company”. The recent focus for Warner Bros has been on next-gen distribution efforts, expanding the availability of its content across platforms and devices to reach the modern viewer. The new company has plans to migrate to one tech stack, which will require extensive retooling, as well as exploring cost-saving automation opportunities for its operations.
Since the merger, the new giant that is Warner Bros Discovery has had a shaky start, forcing the company to wind down operations and cut back on content, which included the very public scrapping of the “Batgirl” movie. However, it now seems the company may have been ahead of the curve, as a wider trend of cutbacks has been seen from peers in the space. This early move, combined with a hyper-focus on cash generation, seeks to establish WBD as an outperformer in an industry on the downturn.
