Role
Who you are
- Proven hands-on experience as a Data Scientist, with a track record of delivering impactful projects
- Profound insight into Python for data analysis and machine learning, and familiarity with core libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, PySpark, etc.)
- Wide experience building and deploying scalable machine learning models into production environments
- Experience leading remote data science or analytics teams in the past
- Excellent written and verbal communication, especially in translating complex technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
- Enjoy writing documentation (e.g., for models, data sources, and experimental results) and understand why it's valuable
- A self-starter - You can identify business opportunities, formulate a data-driven approach, and implement it yourself
- Design and implementation of the overall architecture of your team’s data products and modeling pipelines
- Ensuring the entire analytics stack is designed and built for speed, scalability, and reproducibility
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design (e.g., A/B testing)
- Experience with deploying models as services (e.g., using APIs, containers like Docker)
- Expert knowledge of SQL and Relational Databases
- Experience with model validation, data quality assurance, and MLOps principles
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
- Written and spoken English
- Be a team player
- AWS knowledge is a strong plus
What the job involves
- As our Data Science Team Leader, you'll be in charge of leading a data science team and the models, analyses, and data products that team owns
- Your team will build high-impact, scalable, production-grade machine learning models and data solutions
- You will be leading a talented data science team that works on mission-critical business problems with big customers like Netflix, Amazon, Nike, Facebook & more
- The different members of the team will report directly to you, and you will be involved in helping develop their careers within the company
- You'll be responsible for the week-to-week project planning of your team and keeping each member accountable for their deliverables
- As a technical lead, a key part of your role is to be a people manager. It's vital you dedicate time to mentoring and managing your team members
- You'll be expected to drive the analytical and modeling direction in projects and ensure they meet accuracy, scalability, and business impact requirements
- You'll be hands-on with projects, getting deep into data analysis, modeling, and code, and be looked upon as the senior authority in data science methodologies, statistical analysis, and machine learning implementation
- You'll be responsible for hiring for your team
- You'll be responsible for communicating insights, project status, and planning between other teams and business stakeholders
Our take
It is clearly evident that there is a massive payments gap between developed countries and emerging economies, with consumers in many countries having little or no access to modern payment options. dLocal was established in Uruguay to address this gap, which it aims to close not only for its neighbouring countries but across the globe.
Through its unique "One dLocal" concept (one direct API, one platform, and one contract), global companies can accept payments, send pay-outs and settle funds globally without separately managing pay-in and pay-out processors. The company also supplies a defense suite and local issuing for virtual and physical pre-paid cards in Latin America, as well as tools for building payments infrastructure for platforms and marketplaces.
Since founding, the company has expanded across Uruguay, the USA, Israel, Brazil and Europe. The company has seen significant growth while remaining confident and committed to its original mission. A notable achievement is dLocal becoming a certified Payment Initiation Service Provider in Brazil, which means it can eliminate unnecessary steps for users in the region.
