Who you are
- 5+ years of experience in backend or full stack product development
- 2+ years experience in people management of high-performing engineering teams
- You're highly technical, enough to solve almost any problem your team has yourself, but you prefer to guide your team into solving them
- Ability to work independently. You’ll be working at a company that’s mostly based in North America. You need to be able to make decisions and solve problems autonomously
- Excellent communication skills. You must be able to collaborate effectively with teams in a fully-remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences
What the job involves
- The Top of Funnel team is key to user growth
- By combining our knowledge of search engines, with an eye for the best user experiences we have the opportunity to introduce Reddit to new and unfamiliar users and transform them into deeply engaged users
- As the Engineering Manager for the Top of Funnel team at Reddit, you will lead a full-stack team responsible for building UIs, APIs, and foundation backend systems to support web crawling and deliver an exceptional guest user experience
- This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and a strong drive to understand and fulfill customer needs
- You will own the execution of your team’s roadmap and be accountable for consistent, predictable delivery
- You will ruthlessly prioritize both planned projects and emergent asks
- You will work closely with Tech Leads on project management and empower your team to execute autonomously
- You will identify risks and proactively communicate them both internally and externally
- Our engineering managers are directly responsible for scaling up their teams
- You will identify your team’s needs, write job descriptions, source, interview, and help close candidates
- You will have the support of our incredible recruiting team to bring diverse and talented engineers into Reddit
- You will help your engineers identify career goals and create development plans to achieve them
- You will constantly seek opportunities to push your engineers outside their comfort zone and turn followers into leaders
- You will work with your team to develop processes and tooling that constantly improve the quality of our products and systems, ensuring that they meet product requirements, customer needs, and SLAs
- You will serve as a thought partner to product and upper management to ensure your team’s plans align with company goals
- You will become an expert in Search Engine Optimization and other Top-of-funnel channels and our customer needs
- You will participate in and challenge prioritization decisions
- You will communicate your team’s work and set expectations with external stakeholders

Reddit is a website that facilitates thousands of message board communities, known as subreddits, with an aim to promote authentic human connection. There are more than 100,000 communities on Reddit, covering everything, from food, entertainment, sports, and books, to more niche topics that cater for very specific audiences.
The simple platform is used by more than 52 million people a day and attracts over 50 billion monthly views. While these are impressive numbers, they do pale in comparison with social media giants Facebook and Twitter, however, Reddit distinguishes itself by providing easy-to-find communities for a truly endless range of topics.
Reddit makes money through advertising as well as offering a premium ad-free membership plan. The company has enjoyed continuous user & revenue growth, acquisitions by Conde Nast in 2006 and Advance in 2011, and plans to launch an IPO bid in 2024.
