What the job involves
- As a Data Engineer, you’ll build and optimize pipelines, infrastructure, and data models that scale our business and enhance operational efficiency
- You’ll work with cutting-edge tools like AWS Lambda, Apache Kafka, Airbyte, Snowflake, and dbt, shaping a high-performance data ecosystem
- Collaborating with Data Analysts, Backend Engineers, and Cloud Infrastructure teams, you’ll ensure seamless data flows and reliability

- ETL Pipeline & API Development – Build and maintain high-performance ETL pipelines and APIs using tools like AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, Apache Kafka, and Airbyte, ensuring seamless data ingestion and processing
- Data Warehousing & Modeling – Design and manage scalable data models in Snowflake, using dbt to align with analytics and business needs
- Data Contracts & Schema Evolution – Define and implement structured data contracts with formats like Protobuf, Apache Avro, and JSON, ensuring consistency and flexibility across our data ecosystem
- Cloud Infrastructure & Automation – Manage cloud infrastructure with Terraform and GitHub Actions, automating deployments and streamlining data workflows
- Monitoring & Data Integrity – Ensure data quality, performance, and reliability using monitoring tools like Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, AWS Alerts, and Apache Superset. Stay ahead of issues with proactive alerting and troubleshooting
- Continuous Improvement – Work with a cross-functional team to enhance reliability, scalability, and performance of our data platform, driving innovation and efficiency
Our take
Driverless cars are often considered as the future of transport, but the AI-driven innovation is not yet powerful and safe enough to be made publically available. Furthermore, it is anticipated that many people would not trust AI-driven driverless cars regardless of their state of development, preferring to know that a human is behind the wheel.
Vay develops autonomous driving hardware powered by "teledriving", a system in which cars are driven remotely by humans. The German company will begin by providing orderable cars that can be driven manually by the customer but parked remotely by Vay staff, with future use cases including full remote rides, ride-sharing, last-mile delivery, and public transport.
Whilst other companies such as Mobileye have made plans to provide driverless cars to German cities, Vay is standing out with its unique focus on the trust of teledriving. Furthermore, the initial focus on autonomous parking will greatly speed up rollout and give the company a competitive edge. 2024 funding is being used to expand its development team and grow its European market.
