Who you are
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering, Full Stack Development, or related roles with 2+ years in People Management
- Strong background in data pipeline orchestration and big data technologies
- Strong programming skills
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
What the job involves
- We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineering Manager to design, build, and scale our Data Engineering and Reporting capabilities
- You will drive strategy, execution, and adoption of platform initiatives, ensuring reliability, security, and developer productivity across the organization
- You will also be a key contributor in the technical architecture and development related activities related to future farms
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for batch and real-time processing
- Develop and optimize ETL/ELT workflows to integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources
- Ensure data quality, governance, and lineage across data platforms
- Collaborate with Data Scientists and Analysts to support advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives
- Manage and tune data storage solutions (SQL/NoSQL databases, data warehouses, data lakes)
- Work closely with business users of all levels to obtain and translate requirements into Reporting / Dashboard needs
- Design and develop PowerBI based reports and dashboards
- Collaborate with stakeholders to provide data-driven insights
- Wear multiple hats to help IT in a cross-section of items where needed
- Partner with other departments to design and deploy critical systems

Our take
The vertical farming industry has been on the rise in recent years, as the world looks to mitigate the strain on farmland. Leveraging robotics, ML, aeroponics, and hydroponics to control growing climates, it represents a modern approach to farming, and AeroFarms is one of the most well known startups in the field.
The space is already competitive, but AeroFarms sets itself apart from the likes of Bowery Farms and Gotham Greens by its use of aeroponics to grow quality produce without sunlight or soil. The company hit the headlines back in 2017 when celebrity chef David Chang helped round out a $40 million funding round, and it's been growing ever since, supplying the likes of Stop & Shop, Walmart, and Whole Foods.
Despite a strong historic performance in the market, the company announced in 2023 that it was making a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing - brought on, it says, by "significant industry and capital market headwinds". It has, however, emerged from a business restructuring and refocusing with a new CEO, returning the company to the pursuit of growth with new financing options thereafter.
