Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate should be a highly strategic thinker with a proven track record of delivering exceptional results, have strong market knowledge and excellent media relations
- They should be skilled at working with a wide-range of internal and external stakeholders to help navigate fast-paced, complex environments
- Have 15+ years of experience working in communications, ideally at a high growth technology company in a senior in-house position
- Have a strong record of driving communications across multiple markets across EMEA and are equally comfortable driving proactive communications and handling reactive issues
- Are excellent at media relations, and issues management and have a deep understanding of the political and regulatory landscape across EMEA, especially in the EU & UK
- Are a clear and superb written and verbal communicator
- Have a strong track record of translating complex technical language into compelling messaging
- Enjoy working cross-functionally with a range of technical and non-technical teams
- Are excited to translate insights about AI for broader audiences, ranging from the tech press to the general public
- Are results-oriented, with a bias towards flexibility and impact
- Care about ensuring that transformative AI systems are developed safely
- Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
What the job involves
- Anthropic seeks a highly skilled communicator to lead Anthropic’s communications across Europe, Middle East and Africa
- As our first communications hire in the region you will develop and drive effective communications campaigns that advance Anthropic's position in our key EMEA markets
- The role will report to our Head of Communications in the US
- Partner with regional and global leadership to define and drive impactful communication strategies that advance Anthropic’s goals in our priority markets
- Translate strategy into breakthrough campaigns, narratives and initiatives that resonate with relevant audiences
- Handle major corporate announcements, executive interviews, speaking events and coach our executive bench
- Build strong relationships with journalists and relevant influencers
- Partner cross-functionally with a wide range of teams including sales, marketing, legal, research, policy and external partners
- Provide communications counsel to a wide range of stakeholders across the company including leadership
- Build a high-performing team of in-house and agency talent
- Protect and advance Anthropic's reputation and brand
- Sample projects:
- Define a compelling communications strategy that advances Anthropic’s position and increases awareness/adoption of Claude in our priority EMEA markets
- Identify and drive strategic initiatives in partnership with our sales, product and marketing teams
- Manage fast-moving inbound press enquiries on complex issues
- Manage executive visits to the region
- Hire, onboard and manage a lean, high-performing team across the region

Funded by Google and founded by ex-OpenAI employees, Anthropic is an AI company focused on building a reliable, innovative AI system. While the company is relatively new to the market it has already launched a highly anticipated AI chat assistant called Claude which is set to rival OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Similar to other chatbots, Claude is accessible through a chat interface and can provide a number of conversation and text-processing tasks. A key point of differentiation is that Claude is designed to produce less harmful outputs than that of the other chatbots that came before it.
While there is much praise for the chat assistant, there is still room for improvement with feedback reporting that Claude is worse at maths and grammar compared to its rival. However, with industry giants like Google backing this company from an early stage, it is clear Anthropic has the potential to become a leading player within the AI industry.
