Role
Who you are
- You have 12+ years experience as an Engineer and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- You have experience in Golang or have expertise in one or more backend programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js, C#, or C++)
- You have experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, or React and database skills, both relational and NoSQL
- You have experience designing and working with RESTful APIs
- You embody a deep understanding of cloud-based architectures, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, including serverless frameworks, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines
- You embody best practices for code quality, testing, and performance optimization, with hands-on experience in unit testing, integration testing, and debugging tools
- You have excellent collaboration and communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- You are a proactive problem solver, take ownership of your work, and love delivering high-quality user experiences

- In the role of Staff Software Engineer, you will report to the Director of Engineering for the Platform
- Enhance cross-team collaboration to define technical requirements and contribute to system architecture, ensuring alignment with our goals and scalability
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code while following industry best practices, including code reviews and design patterns
- Resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring that both frontend and backend components are optimized for speed and reliability
- Contribute to the automation and optimization of build, deployment, and monitoring processes to support a smooth development lifecycle
- Develop and maintain comprehensive test suites (unit and integration) to ensure system reliability and robustness
- Implement and maintain security best practices, safeguarding sensitive data and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations
- The Account Services team designs and maintains essential services, including authentication and authorization systems that are integral to our customers' user experience
- Additionally, we manage user settings, profiles, watch data, and Single Sign-On (SSO) functionality
- Embracing development best practices and leveraging the latest technologies within a cloud-based microservices architecture, we ensure seamless performance even under high traffic loads

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
