Who you are

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with a focus on backend engineering
Proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language (e.g., Python, Java, TypeScript), with the ability to ramp quickly on Node.js
Strong experience with AWS services, particularly AWS Lambda, S3, Glue, and Step Functions for building scalable, serverless data pipelines
Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools, preferably Pulumi
Experience with data engineering and building data pipelines
Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues
Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

What the job involves

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Platform Engineer to join our innovative team
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in backend development, cloud technologies, and data engineering
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in architecting and building the core platform that powers SparkPlug’s innovative solutions
Platform Development: Design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust backend systems using Node.js
Infrastructure as Code: Use Pulumi for infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and management to ensure scalable and maintainable cloud systems
Data Engineering: Perform data engineering tasks, including data ingestion, transformation, and analysis to support data-driven decision-making
Data Ingestion: Design and manage scalable data processing pipelines and serverless applications using Apache Spark
Data Warehouse: Build and optimize Databricks Delta tables and pipelines to ensure high performance and reliability
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, data science, and front-end development, to deliver high-quality solutions
Best Practices: Advocate and implement best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment processes to ensure the robustness and reliability of the platform

The platform gives frontline workers the chance to earn through rewards with cases for every sale they make. In doing so, the company makes every employee somewhat of an owner, generating an incentive to carry out impressive work, acting as a kind of in-store influencer, whilst delivering real-time campaign data for tracking efficacy to brands.

SparkPlug has scaled rapidly to meet increasing demand for its service. It raised a round of Series A funding in 2022, which was used to fuel the company’s aggressive growth plans. These plans include investments into data, development, and behavioural science expertise to help develop the platform further.
