Role
Who you are
- Solid communication skills and a collaborative approach to development
- Hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud provider
- Familiarity with security best practices and automation tools
- Experience with some of the following areas, we’ll help you to learn the rest:
- Terraform, CDK and CloudFormation
- TypeScript or other strongly typed languages
- CloudWatch, Grafana, Datadog or similar monitoring/logging tools
- Cloud Native/Serverless distributed architectures
- Networking basics
- Experience contributing to the operation of production systems, ideally in a distributed or cloud environment
Desirable
- A proactive mindset and enthusiasm for learning from more senior engineers
- Exposure to multi-team environments or shared platform services
- Experience in agile ways of working, including pair programming and refining/prioritising tasks as a team
- Interest in event-driven systems such as data streaming, telemetry & IoT
- Familiarity with CI/CD and observability practices beyond the basics
- Understanding of the full web technology stack (network, TCP/IP, DNS, routing, HTTP/S)
- Experience of supporting Critical National Infrastructure
What the job involves
- As an engineer on this team, you'll design, build, and maintain the platforms and tools that make it easier for all of our engineers to ship code safely, efficiently, and reliably
- You'll partner with product developers and other platform teams across the company to remove friction, improve automation, and enable self-service
- Help us build tooling that enables our product delivery teams to go from idea to production, both safely and rapidly
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to understand their needs and translate them into practical platform solutions
- Work alongside other engineers in the team to design and implement solutions that improve scalability, reliability, and developer experience
- Take ownership of tasks, while developing towards owning larger pieces of work
- Contribute to ongoing learning and improvement through active participation in retrospectives and other agile ceremonies
- Work as part of a flexible support rota, during normal working hours, helping to triage and facilitate requests from other engineers
