Role
Who you are
- Director or senior engineering leader who's still comfortable pushing code to production when necessary
- Experience working with multiple products at a platform level, ideally in B2B SaaS environments
- Hands-on experience with Kafka or other messaging platforms
- High level of Architectural ability, particularly with distributed systems or streaming
- Adept at managing and mentoring high-performing teams, nurturing talent, and guiding individuals toward professional growth and development
- Experienced in crafting long-term strategies and managing technical roadmaps that pave the way for future growth
- Successful running agile organizations at scale, with a sense of urgency to deliver quality software to solve customer problems
- Demonstrated experience in promoting positive culture and diversity throughout a large engineering organization to achieve transformational change
What the job involves
- As the Director, Engineering Platform you'll have the opportunity to build infrastructure from the ground up
- You'll play a key role in the success of Clio’s multi-product growth strategy, shaping how we integrate homegrown and acquired products while tackling exciting technical and architectural challenges with a long-term vision

- Together, you and your team will rethink how lawyers operate every day, simplifying tasks, transforming their work and setting new standards
- Your impact will go beyond normal boundaries, reshaping the future of law and making a real difference in its core
- Roll up your sleeves and deep dive into the technology & code to get things done and help managers & developers better understand what is possible
- Directly supervise, mentor, and collaborate with engineering managers and individual contributors who are in the thick of it every day
- Define synchronization between systems and take ownership of the foundational architecture, ensuring that all services communicate effectively now and in the future
- Partner with leadership in Product Management and Product Design to envision, develop, and execute on our roadmap
- Work closely with the Recruiting/People team to actively recruit and hire top talent to support Clio’s ambitious growth plans for our documents team/function
Our take
Modern law firms increasingly manage their work digitally but the lack of a specialised remote solution means that workflows have become fragmented. This leads to legal practice managers having to juggle multiple software solutions across various devices.
Clio provides a legal practice management platform designed for law firms, allowing users to manage billing for legal aid cases, access and manage documents and store files across multiple devices. Whilst other startups are operating in this niche, Clio has uniquely focussed on synchronisation across remote devices and on a wide range of integrations, allowing the user to access information from other industry standard software such as Xero and Klyant from within a single interface.
Clio has raised a large amount of investment capital, most recently in a 2021 Series E round which saw the company attain unicorn status with a valuation exceeding $1 billion. This funding is being used to accelerate its product development, hire additional talent, and for expansion into new markets with a focus on the EMEA region, particularly the UK and Ireland.
