Who you are
- 4-7 years of professional experience building software
- An engineer who can turn strategy into reliable code at lightning speed using AI, ensuring the output is secure, scalable, and easy to modify
- Experience building backend APIs and services in a highly collaborative team setting
- Creative problem solver with a passion for testing, debugging, and overall code quality
- Experience with event-based architectures
- Familiarity with or interest in docker, AWS, Terraform, Datadog
- Data-driven decision maker, willing to take risks, fail fast, and iterate at the speed of AI generation
- A keen understanding of testing best practices
- Familiarity with Ruby, Go
Desirable
- Experience building applications at scale
- Familiarity with or interest in Kubernetes, Consul, multi-region systems, multi-cloud design
- Familiarity with or interest in other areas of our stack including Spinnaker, CI/CD pipelines, Nginx, TypeScript, React, Node.js, Postgres, SNS/SQS, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer to lead our B2B efforts for the StashWorks product
- StashWorks is an existing platform with a small but growing set of clients, and this role will be responsible for evolving the product, scaling its capabilities, and driving its next phase of development
- You will own the overall product roadmap while partnering closely with our StashWorks General Manager (GM) to support sales cycles and expand our employer footprint
- You’ll operate at the intersection of product strategy, fintech, and go-to-market execution — refining a live product, incorporating real customer feedback, and balancing near-term commercial needs with long-term platform maturity
- Stash is aggressively retooling into an AI-first engineering culture, and you will be at the forefront of that transition
- We expect you to be a trailblazer, heavily leveraging tools like Cursor, Opus, and GPT to accelerate the 'easy 80%' so you can focus your brainpower on architecture, security, and strategy
- You won't just be building a product; you will be helping us define the modern way to ship it
- Act as an "Agent Conductor" to architect, design, and rapidly implement services by leveraging AI coding assistants
- Own the end to end delivery of software from inception to production
- Instrument, test, profile, and code review software
- Continuously deploy to our cloud-based infrastructure
- Scale software infrastructure for a quickly-growing user base
Our take
Founded in 2015, Stash was created in response to studies showing that 44% of Americans don’t invest in stocks, 70% of households don’t have a long-term financial plan, and 68% are afraid to retire. Stash offers beginner retail investors the tools to invest small amounts in stocks and exchange-traded funds. It aims to help new investors learn the ropes, offering preference-tailored guidance and digestible investment summaries.
Its service, although pricier than competitors like Wealthfront and Acorns, remains competitive through its highly educational and beginner-friendly focus. This is a lucrative feature for Stash, given the recent surge in first-time and amateur retail investors. The company has more than 6 million customers, and its assets under management total about $3 billion.
Its focus on long-term profit over day trading is refreshing in the retail investment app market. It could prove especially attractive to its younger customer base (average age 29), who are on the whole trending away from traditional legacy banking and looking towards new, innovative financial platforms.
Stash was not immune to the market turmoil of 2022, which particularly impacted the fintech sector, and was forced to restructure. Having streamlined the business, it received major funding and a leadership change in 2023. Stash is now setting its sights on an acquisition or public offering in the near future.
