Who you are
- 3+ years of engineering management experience with a proven track record of leading high-performing, full-stack development teams
- Experience building high-scale web front ends with React; additional experience with Ruby on Rails and/or GraphQL a plus
- A collaborative, empathetic approach to leadership, with demonstrated success in mentoring, developing, and supporting engineering teams
- A data-informed mindset, with the ability to define and track key performance metrics, ensuring impactful product outcomes
- Experience with adtech, ideally including working with in-house or third-party ad solutions and integrating advertising strategies within a digital platform

- As the Senior Engineering Manager of the Scribd Core Team, you’re an experienced engineering manager who brings both technical expertise and a people-first approach to engineering management
- You excel at building and guiding cohesive, high-performing teams
- You have a deep understanding of full-stack web development, thrive on tackling complex technical challenges, and are keyed into the business strategy of both subscription and advertising monetization
- Lead and grow a talented and successful engineering team focused on delivering high-quality, user-centered features for Scribd
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Design, Marketing, as well as other engineering disciplines such as AI/ML and Infrastructure teams to define the roadmap and set priorities that align with our goals
- Deliver solutions that enhance the experience for both users and advertisers, contributing to a balanced and sustainable revenue model for Scribd
- Play a pivotal role in maturing our adtech capabilities, working to bring select ad technology in-house and expand our advertising strategies
- Foster a culture of operational excellence, driving improvements in code quality, testing, and site performance
Our take
The world's biggest site for social reading and publishing, Scribd's website has over 250 million unique visitors each month and a vast content library, consisting of over 200 million audiobooks, magazines, ebooks and newspapers as well as media created by the Scribd community.
While Scribd is the largest social reading site, it is not alone in offering this kind of media. It competes against some major players, the largest of which are Amazon's Kindle and Audible offerings, but also includes the likes of BookMate and the non-profit Internet Archive. Where it stands aside is in its feature-rich reader and the sheer diversity of its library, which, thanks to partnerships with several major publishers, features numerous popular titles as well as a range of independent creators.
Further differentiating it from competitors, the company taken a firm stand on social issues, in particular the recent wave of book bannings taking place across the United States. By making the banned titles freely available it hopes to do its part in preserving literary freedom. With this tendency showing no signs of slowing down, Scribd's intervention in this area could prove to be important.
