Who you are
- Technical leadership: Ability to set technical goals that can show the business impact they deliver. Experience with managing a roadmap of technical changes that strengthen and unify our technical landscape and working with a budget
- People Leadership: Proven record in managing technical teams and fostering the professional growth of employees
- Strategic Vision: Strong understanding of how infrastructure and developer productivity impact product delivery, cost, and operational efficiency and how this translates to the overall business success
- Technical Proficiency: Solid experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, Google Cloud, Terraform) and developer productivity tools (Jenkins, Backstage, Sentry). Understanding of the development lifecycle and hands-on development experience
- Vendor management: Experience in selecting and managing vendors and maintaining beneficial relationships
- Communication Skills: Ability to work with the business and leadership side to create understanding for what the team is doing and how this impacts the overall business
- Excellent English skills, both spoken and written. German skills are a plus
- The ability to work in an agile multi-national, distributed organization
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a strategic, people-oriented leader to drive the evolution of our Cloud Infrastructure and Developer Experience team
- Technical Leadership: Balance cost-conscious infrastructure management with reliability, scalability, and security on platforms like AWS and Kubernetes
- Operational Exellence: Ensuring smooth operation of our products and development infrastructure and making sure product teams have the right tools to understand and improve those aspects of their systems, as well
- Developer Productivity: Optimize our development tool stack, aligning it with business needs and bring together a fragmented mix of tools to maximize developer efficiency
- Team Development: Lead and mentor a talented Core Platform team, building cohesion and ensure each team member is able to produce impactful results
- Service Improvement: Work closely with our development teams, our Staff Engineers, Information Security and Compliance to develop a roadmap of development improvements
- Collaboration: Engage with product and tech leaders to ensure our infrastructure and developer experience strategies support broader business objectives
Our take
The insurance sector has been undergoing a period of radical digital transformation over recent years. Gone are the days of imperfect policy fits, time-consuming shopping, and lengthy exchanges with dubious brokers. A wave of startups are making insurance faster, easier, and more on-demand than ever, and the newly minted Unicorn app CLARK is proving to be a major player.
Operating in Germany and Austria, the CLARK app allows insurance customers to manage and monitor all their contracts from a single hub. It works like an independent insurance advisor, keeping users abreast of expiry dates, policy changes, and recommending policy improvements by scanning different rates from over 180 insurers.
The German insurtech market is especially strong relative to its European counterparts, thanks to impressive international investment, careful government regulation, and a fertile, collaborative ecosystem. This has meant, however, that the market has reached a matured period of slower growth and consolidation. So CLARK will need to ensure it keeps pace with similarly commanding startups like Wefox and INZMO.
