Role
Who you are
- You have built and run in production backend distributed systems for 5+ years
- Proficient at Clojure, passionate about Functional Programming and keen to have exposure to other languages (Typescript/NodeJS and C#/NET are also part of our stack)
- Proven track record running and scaling services on AWS
- Experience designing and building REST APIs
- You are familiar with many of the following: CI/CD pipelines, immutable infrastructure, containers and serverless architectures
- You work and adapt in rapidly changing startup environments
- Previous experience in FinTech or the Banking domain would be an advantage
What the job involves
- Be part of a cross-functional squad with responsibility to design, architect, build code and infrastructure, deploy, maintain and monitor services on a vertical domain. You build it, you run it
- Build integrations that interact with a diverse set of complex payment schemes in multiple countries
- Build operational tooling, improve development and release workflows and experiment with new ways of working
- Solve problems - you unblock yourself and other team members when they hit a roadblock
- The Stack:
- Code - Clojure (JVM)
- Infrastructure - AWS IaC with Terraform, Serverless (Amazon Lambda)
- Persistence - AWS DynamoDB, AWS RDS, Datomic
- Data distribution - AWS SNS/SQS, Apache Kafka
- Monitoring & Alerting - ELK, Grafana, Prometheus, PagerDuty
Our take
As the digital economy has grown, so too has the market for 'Banking-as-a-Service' - the process of ensuring the overall execution of financial services over the web. As businesses expand online, they have opportunities to be able to build and sell various financial services or add fintech features to their existing products. Railsr (formerly Railsbank) facilitates companies doing this easily, where it would previously have been a huge undertaking.
Essentially, Railsr is making financial services more inclusive. Previously, the complexities of legacy technology, managing global compliance and ancient bank processes have created a slow, complex and costly experience for customers. Now, through Railsr's Open Banking Platform and APIs, financial innovators have the means of creating the financial services, products and experiences their clients want.
In 2022, shortly after becoming Railsr, the company benefitted from the embedded finance boom and raised a large funding round to support its ongoing expansion efforts. Early in 2023, however, the company had to undertake an emergency sale and shift of control - though it seems to have remained positive throughout, citing the sale as a "pivotal moment" that will enable it to "rebuild momentum, drive change and return Railsr to growth."
