Role
Who you are
- High proficiency in Excel/Google Sheet and experience with visualisation tools (e.g. Power B.I, Tableau)
- Good to advanced knowledge of SQL and other data retrieval tools
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to produce high-quality deliverables
- Strong problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work with large data sets and to synthesise information and draw meaningful conclusions
- Ability to collaborate with others and work with a high degree of autonomy
- Experience of working in a fast paced environment where prioritisation is required
- Excellent presentation and communication skills - able to articulate results clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders
- Comfortable navigating change and uncertainty, with a flexible working attitude
- Experience and knowledge within the energy sector will be an advantage
- Demonstrable experience of using data to highlight areas for improvement would be set you apart
What the job involves
- You will be supporting the Commercial Performance team drive value in the pursuit of Path to Zero, identifying new trends and opportunities by preparing accurate reports and analysis that unlock insight and help OVO test hypotheses, and drive change where there is value
- Preparing the weekly and monthly performance reports with all sales and retention related data
- Tracking and updating all key actions from key meetings
- Updating rolling forecasts each month with the latest actuals and running through the latest sales and retention submissions
- Constantly reviewing all key forecasting assumptions, understanding rationale for changes from the business as well as validating the data with actuals
- Managing the forecasting model configuration to ensure it reflects committed or emerging commercial strategies
- Developing decision making models to assist the wider commercial teams in ensuring decisions are made to optimise long-term value, including the allocation of spend for CAC
- Supporting the Commercial Performance team on ad-hoc requests
- Being a key data expert for the team - ensuring data consistency with the BI & customer retention team
- Within your first 3 months month you’ll:
- Have a working understanding of our existing models and reporting structures
- Have improved some of our newer dashboard reports
- Have an understanding of our data environment and built a network with other data analyst
- Be able to independently run our two key weekly and monthly reports

Our take
On average, home energy represents 26% of our carbon footprint. Ovo Energy wants to bring this to zero by providing cheaper, greener and simpler energy to customers. They are analysing meter data to deliver easy, personalised actions, turning electric vehicles into power stations with clever chargers, and building energy-efficient heaters. For households, their offering is organised into four different energy plans. that include interest rewards on energy credit balance.
In 2020, OVO completed the acquisition of SSE Energy Services' retail arm for £500 million, meaning that the challenger brand now has around 4 million customers in the UK.
While helping Ovo members halve their carbon footprints, the company is also working towards becoming a net zero carbon business by 2035. The challenges ahead for the company include encouraging consumer behaviour change, shifting towards subscription models for home energy use.
