- We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer for our team who will do all these things and more
- You have a strong technical background in mechanical engineering. Bonus points for experience with manufacturing or industrial product design
- You have significant experience in designing, testing and validating full mechanical designs
- You have some experience in managing a third party in the design, test and validation of mechanical designs
- You have some experience in improving product quality and processes, particularly in manufacturing and test jigs
- You have some experience in engineering for cost and ownership or maintenance of a Mechanical BOM
- You are articulate and empathetic, you can bring people along with you and encourage leadership and development at all levels
- You are comfortable with and enjoy operating in the uncertainty of a startup environment where you will have to prioritise ruthlessly and wear different hats in order to deliver without exhausting yourself and your team
- You are customer and product focussed, with a strong sense of what “great” looks like
- You place a lot of value in high-quality written (async) and verbal (sync) communication
What the job involves
- Deliver highly-reliable mechanical designs for wireless hardware products from conception to mass production
- Design and architect mechanical products for robustness, reliability, and scalability
- Work closely with peers and stakeholders on collaborative problem solving, relentlessly removing impediments from their path
- Foster open and productive discussions, partly through high-quality, clear written communication
- Set the bar for technical excellence and contribute to a culture of technical excellence in the wider organisation

Our take
Converge’s immediate focus has been to help civil engineers on construction sites better monitor concrete strength. Since its founding, Converge has deployed thousands of sensors across the UK, helping hundreds of engineers do their job more efficiently, and building deep insight and expertise in the construction industry by connecting the physical environment.
Construction work involving concrete typically requires manual monitoring, lab tests, waiting games and over-pouring. It’s inefficient, expensive and damaging to the environment. Converge’s flagship product helps to avoid all this.
It is able to use the data collected from its portfolio of projects to predict future concrete behaviour. London City Airport was the first commercial project that combined data including temperature readings from the concrete with local weather forecasts, to give a prediction of when the concrete will reach strength.
Converge's ambition is to reduce average cement content in concrete by 15%, estimating a 26 megaton carbon emissions reduction per year by 2030. It is currently expanding its suite of modules to include the optimisation of construction logistics and structural health.
