Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate will be passionate about pragmatic problem-solving and automation for improving both product quality as well as the developer experience
- 2+ years of experience managing or leading an engineering team
- Excellent programming skills in an embedded context, using C or C++
- Experience developing with BLE, NFC, and/or other wireless technologies
- Experience leading Agile teams
- Experience working on Nordic, ATTiny, or SAMD microcontrollers
- Experience with both bare-metal and RTOS based firmware development
- Strong background working on firmware at scale, servicing updates through OTA
- Results-oriented, dependable, and accountable
- Strong ability to analyze existing code and debug
- Comfortable reading Python, Makefile, and Shell scripts
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience with AI/machine learning technologies is strongly preferred
- 4+ years experience in embedded or firmware development using C or C++
- 1+ years of experience leading a team of engineers
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position
What the job involves
- Our Firmware Engineering team is looking for an exceptional Team Lead with a passion for innovation, technology, and quality
- The team builds and maintains the firmware that powers our ever-expanding lineup of physical security devices, including card/NFC and mobile/BLE readers, video devices, and I/O expansion boards, all of which must seamlessly support the business and its growing customer base
- This position requires significant cross-team communication and cooperation with customer support, QA, product management, and software and hardware development groups
- Lead a team of 5+ individuals providing on-going employee coaching, mentoring, development, and team building
- Designing and developing highly reliable software for our internally-designed embedded systems as well as hardware interface services in an embedded environment
- Setting team priorities that align with organizational goals and objectives
- Making data-driven decisions to optimize for power consumption and performance
- Board bring up, writing device drivers, and R&D on the latest embedded technologies
- Writing clean and testable C code for a multi-processor product
- Iterating on existing RF software drivers and business logic to improve performance and reliability
- Reading schematics and collaborating with hardware engineers
- Work closely with hardware development for all NPI activities, including initial bring up, test, certification, and manufacturing
- Taking ownership of your code, including verification testing and writing documentation
- Work with customer support and other software teams to diagnose and resolve customer issues as needed
- Work with QA team to design, develop and execute test scripts for life cycle, unit and regression testing
- Work cross-functionally with other engineering and product leadership across mobile app, cloud software, and hardware teams to guide the development of new products and the evolution of the organization’s team structures and development processes
- Leading embedded architecture and processor decisions to optimize for performance and reliability of our products
