Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in revenue recognition principles, experience in the technology industry, and the ability to collaborate strategically with cross-functional teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA qualification is strongly preferred
- A minimum of 8+ years of experience in revenue accounting, ideally with a mix of industry and public accounting experience
- 3+ years of management experience
- Expert knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles (ASC 606) is required
- Experience with various revenue models, including subscription-based, usage-based, and professional services
- Experience with SOX and internal controls (design, implementation, and execution) is a plus
- Demonstrated success in leading revenue accounting functions in a dynamic environment managing multiple and changing priorities with ability to understand issues, demonstrate resourcefulness, and proactively resolve problems
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with cross-functional partners, drive cross-functional projects, and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including GTM organizations
- Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate technical accounting concepts to a non-technical environment
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems (Oracle strongly preferred) and financial software
- Experience with Salesforce, CaptivateIQ, and Klarity is a plus
What the job involves
- As the Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting you will report to the Senior Director, Accounting and you will play a key role within the Accounting organization
- You will serve as the Company’s revenue recognition subject matter expert and ensure Checkr’s revenue reporting remains compliant with ASC 606
- Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing revenue and commissions monthly close activities within the Technical Revenue team
- Manage and mentor the Technical Revenue Team supporting revenue and commissions processes
- Develop, implement, and maintain revenue recognition policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with ASC 606
- Collaborate with sales, deal desk, legal, billing operations, and finance teams to structure revenue arrangements that align with company objectives and accounting standards
- Contract review and analysis relating to new sales and renewal deals to ensure the Company is recognizing revenue from new & existing contracts in accordance with ASC 606
- Collaborate with revenue operations in the annual compensation planning process to ensure accounting receives adequate information to set up compensation plans in our commissions software
- Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulations related to revenue recognition and assess their impact on the company
- Assist in the month-end financial statement close process by reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting on results to internal stakeholders
- Help design and standardize month-end close processes while proactively finding ways to shorten close timelines and drive efficiencies
- Assist with external audits and provide documentation and explanations related to revenue recognition and commissions policies
- Develop and implement policies, controls, and procedures to scale with the business
- Scope and manage projects driven by the needs of the business such as financial analysis, revenue analysis, and other ad hoc projects
Our take
Checkr addresses the unpleasant and time consuming process of background checks so that companies using on-demand employees can make safer, more informed hiring decisions in less time. Background checks are a critical part of the hiring process, and CEO Daniel Yannisse noticed that they were painfully slow, resulting in loss of work for candidates and productivity downturns for employers.
Before Checkr entered the market in 2014 with its innovative AI technology and a solid $50m in venture capital funding, companies were waiting upwards of two weeks for their checks. Checkr substantially reduces this time frame and has grown to receive a $5 billion valuation.
Checkr has accelerated growth by making several highly advantageous acquisitions of competitor companies GoodHire and Inflection. As the world of work embraces diversity and inclusion, the company announced an end-to-end service for candidates wishing to expunge their criminal records, furthering the company’s ‘fair chance’ mission and clearing 1000s of candidates for free since 2021. New products launched at the end of 2023 include Checkr Pay (providing access to payment right after a shift) and Checkr Onboard (unified onboarding processes), exemplifying how Checkr is keeping pace with a rapidly changing, flexible, and mobile-first workforce.
