Senior Data Engineer, Workiva

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or a related field
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience

• Workiva is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help build and operate our cutting-edge self-service data platform
• This platform enables teams across the organization to seamlessly ingest, transform, and serve data for applications, analytics, and AI/ML use cases
• In this role, you'll design, develop, and optimize scalable platform components across ingestion, transformation, and serving layers
• You’ll take on complex challenges, drive operational excellence, and influence the strategic direction of our data platform, ensuring it remains reliable, efficient, and scalable
• Design and develop scalable data ingestion pipelines using tools like Airbyte, Kafka, and Snowflake (Snowpipe, streaming, and external tables)
• Build modular, maintainable transformations using dbt, following best practices for testing, versioning, and lineage tracking
• Optimize data serving layers to deliver high-performance data products via Snowflake and visualization tools like Superset
• Develop APIs and automation scripts to enhance the self-service experience for platform users
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions to ensure platform reliability and performance
• Optimize resource usage and costs through strategic pipeline design, materialization strategies, and system tuning
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, contributing to incident management and platform stability
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, application engineers, and infrastructure teams, to understand and support platform requirements
• Mentor and guide team members on best practices, code quality, and scalable architecture
• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and design sessions to maintain high engineering standards
• Stay up-to-date with advancements in data engineering, AI/ML, and platform technologies to drive innovation
• Identify opportunities for platform improvements and contribute to the roadmap
• Advocate for scalable, forward-thinking solutions to meet evolving business needs
