Role
Who you are
- Are excited to be part of a lean design team and help set the direction for our design systems and standards
- Have experience shipping thoughtful, user-centered products and can show how your work made an impact
- Enjoy collaborating across teams, building strong relationships with developers, PMs, and stakeholders
- Love solving challenging design problems and turning complexity into simple, intuitive experiences
- Are comfortable wearing multiple hats - from designer to systems thinker to front-end contributor - to bring great ideas to life

- 5+ years in UX/UI or Product Design, with a portfolio of impactful, shipped products
- Experience building and scaling design systems and encouraging adoption across teams
- Comfort with modern design tools (Figma, Miro, Jira) and strong familiarity with front-end code (HTML/CSS/React)
- A collaborative approach to working with developers, product managers, and stakeholders in an agile environment
- Clear communication skills and a thoughtful approach to explaining design decisions
- A passion for usability, accessibility, and creating experiences that delight users
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset — you see opportunities to make things better and act on them
What the job involves
- This is a high-impact opportunity to help shape the product design function at Blue J. You'll uphold and evolve the standard for design quality, contribute to our design system, and craft seamless experiences that make complex tax research simple
- You'll work hand-in-hand with Product and Engineering to turn user insights into creative solutions, helping our product stay smooth, delightful, and loved by our customers
- Support in the design process: research, discovery, wireframes, high-fidelity designs, prototypes, and developer handoff
- Building and maintaining a design system, style guide, and component library that scales with our growing product
- Partnering with Product and Engineering to translate ideas into thoughtful, user-friendly solutions
- Conducting user interviews and usability testing, using feedback to refine and improve the experience
- Connecting directly with customers to ensure solutions meet real-world needs and stay easy to use
- Creating interactive prototypes to validate ideas quickly and collaboratively
- Iterating on designs based on feedback, performance data, and usability insights
- Contributing to front-end code (HTML, CSS, React) to speed up delivery and ensure fidelity
- Improving Figma workflows and documentation to make life easier for the whole team
- Advocating for great design across the organization and sharing knowledge to raise the bar for everyone

Our take
Blue J Legal’s AI powered platform was created by a team of law professors and data scientists with the aim of helping fellow legal professionals gain a better understanding of individual cases, more quickly than if they researched an entire case themselves.
Having initially focused solely on legal cases, Blue J also now applies its predictive AI software to tax law – a tool which has become popular amongst tax attorneys and accountants, not just for its speed but for its junior-training applications.
While there’s been huge growth in the use of AI in the legal industry, its outcomes have not been without flaw. Blue J claims 90% accuracy for its predictive software; however, there have been some cases documented across the whole industry where AI was biased against minority demographics.
The key thing for Blue J Legal moving forward is the accuracy of its software. If the company can maintain the very highest standards and maintain its AI’s integrity, it could become not just financially successful, but socially impactful.
