Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, equivalent experience, or related field preferred
- Experience designing and implementing cloud native architectures based on modern DevOps/SRE principles and best practices
- Experience in operating software services in production. Must have experience leading DevOps on a cloud hosted SaaS product or service delivery environment
- Significant professional experience on either AWS or GCP is required
- Strong hands on technical experience in software development, deployment and operations on public Cloud platform, CICD, deployment automation, and Pipeline as Code
- 3+ years of experience with container orchestration technologies, observability, incident management, and continuous integration and deployment best practices
- Comfortable working with common DevSecOps practices and tooling
- Ability to go deeper than most on one or more domains - Software Architecture, Tooling/Pipelines/DevSecOps, Kubernetes, Databases, and/or Networking
- Ability to learn quickly, understand, and work with new emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in Cloud, DevSecOps, and Software Development
- Technical experience that allows you to contribute to architecture and product decisions
- Ability to clearly communicate status, blockers, risks and dependencies to peer managers and executive stakeholders. Led an engineering team delivering against goals in an Agile/Scrum development methodology
- Experienced people leader. Previous experience as an engineering manager leading a high caliber team. Experience hiring infrastructure engineers and software developers
- Strong communication skills; able to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical audiences
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and complex engagements
- Experience managing a team with 24x7 coverage across multiple regions
- Professional working proficiency in speaking and writing in both English and Spanish
What the job involves
- Manage & lead an organizational team that partners with product and delivery engineering teams to provide customers with platform capabilities and reliable services for FLYR’s evolving product portfolio
- The Platform Engineering Function is one of our teams at the center of our strategy for scaling, and constantly improving our Cloud hosting environments
- The person in this role will be focused on leading a team responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of Cloud Infrastructure, CICD, and observability that enables our Product engineering team members to build innovative products and features
- Your team will drive the onboarding and operational support of multiple customer environments and platforms
- Collaborate with product owners on the analysis of complex business requirements and deliver technical solutions to challenging objectives, and be accountable for driving project execution
- Your team will be responsible for provisioning and maintaining infrastructure as code, automating deployment and release processes, and building platform services that can be used across the FLYR product portfolio
- You’ll participate in building a team culture of good architecture, driving best practice operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost optimization with fellow team members and across FLYR more broadly
- You'll work closely with a range of experienced, and talented technicians from across FLYR, and continue to develop our own set of Company standards, patterns and frameworks for secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient infrastructure, applications and workloads
- Directly supervise a team of 4-6 infrastructure and platform engineers. Provide technical mentorship and training, and promote success in their career path at FLYR
- Define and fulfill the engineering hiring plan for the team, including screening and interviewing
Our take
The airline industry is gargantuan, being responsible for hundreds of billions of revenue per year, and yet in managing their revenue, airline operators have traditionally used relatively simplistic regression models based on few variables. FLYR’s deep learning platform dramatically upgrades airline’s pricing strategy by ingesting a whole host of data provided by the airline to predict demand and revenue, and set the price.
FLYR’s technology takes into account information such as bookings, accounting data, searches, capacity, and even weather and promotions. After proving itself capable of delivering 5%-plus revenue uplifts for airlines, the company began fleshing out its offerings to keep up with the requirements of its large and growing customer base.
FLYR have made a significant number of acquisitions in recent years; including Pace Revenue, a UK-based seller of rate-setting tools for hotels and lodging companies. This activity tunes in to the expectation that the company will bring its sophisticated pricing models to other sectors of the travel industry. FLYR has also gained new partner airlines in JetBlue and Azul, showing that its core offering has not lost any of its traction.
