Who you are
- Experience: You have 3+ years of backend development experience and 5+ years of software development experience
- Payment systems expert: You have experience with payment processing systems, particularly Stripe, including handling subscriptions, refunds, and payment analytics
- Data driven: You’re proficient in implementing and analyzing telemetry data, working with analytics teams to derive insights from user behavior and feature adoption
- Feature flag manager: You’re familiar with feature flag systems like LaunchDarkly to support A/B testing and controlled feature rollouts
- Detective: You have a deep desire to understand how things work in great detail, to guide you in designing systems, and debugging that arise
- Problem solver: You excel at understanding and solving complex problems. You have astonishing attention to detail
- Quality focused: You take pride in building elegant and beautiful things

What the job involves
- As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Growth Pod, you will build and maintain critical backend systems that drive Superhuman's revenue growth initiatives
- You will collaborate with marketing, sales, and product teams to ship high-quality code at a fast pace
- Working with technologies like Go, PostgreSQL, CloudFlare, and Kubernetes, you'll own full-fledged architectures for payment processing, monetization features, and scheduled jobs
- You'll have significant autonomy and impact across the entire Superhuman codebase while helping the company expand its user base and drive business growth
- Design, develop, and scale backend systems that serve millions of users
- Power amazing user experiences by building new features and improving existing ones
- Evaluate and refine solutions to deliver a highly performant and exceptionally reliable backend system
- Become an expert in backend development and expand your development across the stack and to various platforms
- Collaborate across-teams to define how our systems should evolve
- Support code quality, new technologies, and architectural design within the company
- Uphold and advance the security and reliability of Superhuman’s systems

Our take
We spend a staggering upwards of 3 hours a day buried in our emails. The majority of us are used to legacy giants like Gmail or even Hotmail. Superhuman recognizes that our email UX could just be a lot more beautiful and efficient, and have integrated smart features like “unsend” so we never have to suffer the embarrassment of another typo.
Although standing out in a market of free services (they charge a $30 per month fee), Superhuman commanded a waiting list of over 250,000 during its beta testing phase.
With more than $100 million in overall funding from firms like Andreessen Horowitz and First Round Capital, Superhuman is setting trends in emerging enterprise software with both its design and go-to-market strategy. They’ve managed to steal an audience from the big players by giving users something beautiful and more streamlined to work with. Its 2024-released feature is a testament to this, which generates instant reply suggestions for emails that are smart, context-aware and efficient.
