Role
Who you are
- You have 5+ years of progressive experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, with a strong emphasis on building and optimizing data pipelines and data warehouses
- You possess advanced SQL skills, with proven experience in writing complex, performant queries and optimizing them in a data warehouse environment like Redshift
- You have a deep understanding of data warehousing concepts (e.g., dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT patterns) and extensive hands-on experience with data warehouse technologies, particularly Redshift, including performance tuning and optimization
- You have strong, hands-on experience with Python for data engineering, including developing custom ETL/ELT scripts, working with data pipeline frameworks (e.g., Singer.io), and interacting with APIs
- You have demonstrable expertise in data modeling, data transformation, and ensuring data quality and reliability in production systems
- Experience with dbt is highly desirable; familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Looker, Metabase) is a plus
- You are passionate about building scalable, maintainable, and production-ready data solutions
- You feel a passion for Alma's mission – to improve the experience of therapy for providers and their clients and simplify access to care
What the job involves
- Alma is seeking a mission-oriented Senior Analytics Engineer to join our team
- This person will take a leading role in designing, building, and optimizing Alma’s information systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into business metrics for use by analysts and stakeholders across the company
- This person will play an integral role in making performant and reliable data accessible to the organization so it can evaluate and operate effectively and successfully
- Design, build, and optimize data models and queries to transform raw data into useful, actionable, and performant business metrics
- Lead the development and enhancement of Alma’s data pipeline architecture, leveraging Python for custom ETL/ELT processes, including the creation and maintenance of Singer taps and other data ingestion solutions
- Optimize and maintain our data warehouse (Redshift) for performance, scalability, and reliability
- Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve data quality, reliability, and performance issues across the data lifecycle
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and implement robust processes for ingesting data from diverse internal and external sources
- Champion and implement data governance best practices and ensure compliance with data policies
- Partner with the data team and cross-functional stakeholders to understand evolving business needs, prioritize data initiatives, and contribute to the data strategy
- Contribute to the design and implementation of testing frameworks and monitoring solutions for data pipelines
Our take
4 in 10 adults in the United States suffer from some form of anxiety or depression, but most go without appropriate support because of difficulties in accessing mental health care providers. Alma exists to meet a growing demand for mental health services by supporting providers in offering online care, and making it easy for people who need help to find qualified, in-network therapist who meets their needs.
There has been something of a boom in the virtual mental health space, and by encouraging online therapy Alma is competing against a plethora of well-funded apps aimed at self help and mental wellbeing offered at a far lower price than regular therapy. However, these are largely unregulated and their quality is often questionable. By prioritising vetted and professional therapists, Alma has provided a real alternative to in-person therapy and this has allowed it to grow rapidly, growing its network to over 8,000 therapists across all 50 states.
Alma's success has also attracted a large amount of funding. This is being used to further expand its network and to develop the tools offered to its providers. Having scaled rapidly through 2022 it is showing no signs of slowing down, and is well poised for future growth.
