Role
Who you are
- Minimum of 5 + years of demonstrated experience in People Operations, with a focus on business partnership ideally supporting G&A or corporate functions within in a start-up environment
- Strong business partnership skills with the ability to influence leaders, navigate ambiguity, and drive organizational outcomes
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment with the adaptability and resilience to manage competing priorities and evolving business needs
- Strong knowledge of employment law and People practices across the U.S & Canada
- Expertise in organizational development, including talent strategy, employee engagement, performance management, and building scalable, high-performing teams
- Excellent judgement and problem thinking skills
- Proficiency in HR tech stack (preferably Rippling HRIS & Lattice), with the ability to interpret data and drive actionable insights
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to build trust and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Strong judgment, problem-solving, and execution skills with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach

What the job involves
- We're expanding our People Business Partner Team here at Owner!
- In this role, you’ll be a key strategic partner, aligning our People Ops initiatives with Owner’s business goals
- You’ll work closely with G&A leadership across functions like Finance, Talent, Business Operations, Legal and Marketing — helping leaders scale high-performing, engaged, and resilient teams as the company continues to grow
- As an embedded partner, you’ll act as a trusted advisor and coach — supporting leaders through organizational design, performance management, talent planning, and change management
- At Owner, the People Business Partner role goes far beyond the “traditional” scope — you’ll operate much like a Chief of Staff for your business group, helping drive clarity, accountability, and execution across the organization
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with G&A leadership to understand business priorities and develop People Ops strategies that drive organizational effectiveness, scalability, and high performance
- Org Design & Workforce Planning: Partner with leaders on organizational design, headcount planning, and team structure to support evolving business needs and long-term growth
- Talent Management: Partner with Talent and leadership to attract, develop, and retain top talent across G&A functions; support succession planning, leadership development initiatives, coaching strategies, and career frameworks
- Performance Management: Coach leaders through performance management, feedback, and accountability practices that reinforce a high talent density culture
- Culture and Engagement: Champion initiatives that strengthen Owner’s culture and values while fostering employee engagement and connection across distributed teams
- Change Management: Support leaders and teams through periods of growth, change, and transformation with thoughtful communication and execution
- People Ops Analytics: Leverage People metrics and insights to identify trends, inform decision-making, and measure the effectiveness of People programs
- Compliance and Policies: Ensure People practices comply with applicable employment laws and support the needs of a distributed and global workforce

Our take
The Pandemic caused a major upheaval in the US restaurant industry. Smaller operations struggled to stay afloat amidst brick-and-mortar closures, and as the demand for home delivery soared their margins were tightened further by hefty third-party delivery app charges. Add to that the fact that consumers become customers of the delivery app, not the restaurant itself, and it’s a development that has spelt real trouble for independent locales. Owner has set out to level the playing field.
Owner’s platform provides independent restaurants with the infrastructure they need to take control of their business without deferring to third-party apps like GrubHub and Deliveroo. It offers marketing, online ordering, and support solutions to over 10,000 restaurants across the U.S. The company has taken impressive first strides, too: they have a 7 figure run-rate, over 105% monthly revenue retention, and helped restaurants avoid millions in online order platform fees.
It’s a hugely attractive proposition for independent business owners, and research suggests it’s a winning idea for consumers too. Over 60% say they’d prefer to deal with restaurants directly, but historically the infrastructure simply hasn’t been in place to do so. With Owner seeing impressive traction by tripling its customers between 2023 and 2024, it's unsurprising that its 2025 funding is being channelled into engineering and design teams, alongside the development of new tools.
