Who you are
- 3+ years experience working as a Developer Advocate, Data Scientist, AI/ML Engineer,or Solutions Engineer
- Working knowledge of generative AI, machine learning, and data science
- Technical experience with the LLM app development stack (e.g. agents, orchestration frameworks, vector databases, evaluation libraries) with proficiency in Python
- A data-driven creative who thrives in ideating and delivering on novel activities that earn the attention and trust of AI/ML practitioners
- A self-learner who isn’t daunted by technical complexity and welcomes the challenge to develop their own POV
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Willingness to attend evening meetups and events in the SF Bay Area
What the job involves
- The Research Engineer role leads the Arize research projects
- Arize research projects are chosen based on new areas of interest by the industry and new AI models that have been released, how those relate to real on the ground problems
- The research is also designed to be consumed in social media, blogs and open source forums, in a way that the community can truly connect with it
- This role reports through product and engineering but serves a goal of bottoms up developer awareness
- Create awareness through thought-provoking research that educates AI developers
- Shape initial ideas that turn into larger research projects based on holes in industry knowledge and recently developed or released AI models
- Execute research in weeks not months
- Practice the idea of both rigor and review but do it at speeds that are 10x faster than typical research
- Write up research for social media posts, blogs and external events
- Plan and speak at Arize-hosted and industry events and conferences on research you are working on
- Build an AI twitter research presence that speaks to the AI community through social channels
Our take
Machine learning is rapidly becoming a fundamental and mainstream automation tool used across many industries. The issue, however, is that monitoring, assessing, and improving ML models is costly, and especially tricky without monitoring capabilities. It’s created a market demand for ML monitoring tools, and Arize’s platform offers a rich suite of them.
The Arize platform gives developers and operators comprehensive oversight of their models with tools including performance tracing, drift detection, and integration and deployment. This provides a crucial guardrail: as more decision-making is handed over to ML in areas like insurance and loans, poor ML model performance can have a catastrophic effect on both individuals and customers alike.
Remarkably, given this development, ML observability platforms aren’t yet in huge supply. Arize startup rivals like Censius and WhyLabs are making strong headway, but a clear winner has by no means yet emerged. Arize has, however, netted some major customers: Spotify, Instacart, Uber, and P&G are a handful of the major clients that will help it lay a strong foundation in what is anticipated to be a highly lucrative market.
