Who you are
- We are looking for a proactive and adaptable Account Manager to join our team in Berlin
- The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a hands-on mentality; someone who is eager to help the world’s biggest brands grow while changing an industry
- You are excited to work with a global, multicultural team in a collaborative manner and help your team succeed
- Enjoy engaging others and developing strong working relationships internally and externally with customers
- Passionate about working on a wide portfolio of accounts and having the opportunity to learn about many aspects of the payments industry
- Eager to challenge yourself to identify commercial opportunities and drive commercial discussions with customers
- Strong time management skills and constantly looking for ways to work efficiently
- You have 5+ years of experience in a client-facing, commercial role, like account management, consulting, or in the payments industry from a merchant side (bonus if in complex enterprise software, technical infrastructure or financial services)
- This role is based in our Berlin office. We have a hybrid workplace and value in-person collaboration; we do not offer remote-only roles
- You have full professional written and verbal proficiency in German and English
What the job involves
- At Adyen, the Account Management team is critical to the growth and success of our business, as well as expanding the Adyen brand across the globe
- Being part of our Account Management team, you’ll manage relationships with innovative merchants
- You’ll have the opportunity to work on cross-functional initiatives and projects in a fast-paced, highly entrepreneurial environment with high autonomy
- Your focus will be on delivering an outstanding customer experience, finding new opportunities, and driving mutual success for Adyen and our customers
- Our Account Managers are encouraged to challenge each other and sharpen ideas as a team, because winning is more important than ego
- In this role, you’ll get your energy by working on a portfolio of accounts within the Platforms vertical
- Relationship management: Responsible for ramping and growing customers with a focus on commercial growth, customer satisfaction, and reducing churn
- Commercial acumen: Drive commercial discussions for your accounts, while striving to meet strategic and financial targets
- Project management: Prioritize and manage short and long term projects with varying timelines across multiple accounts, leveraging internal support teams where relevant
- Feedback: Serve as a feedback loop for your customers internally

Our take
Adyen has been one of the most successful businesses in Europe over the last decade. When it went public in 2018 at a valuation of €7bn, it raised over €1bn and its share price popped on the first day, resulting in a valuation of €14bn. Its valuation has continued to climb by the billions.
Adyen competes with large players like PayPal, as well as outsized startups like Stripe, to power payments and provide other infrastructure to conduct digital transactions. Disrupters in the field have been buoyed by a strong rise in eCommerce activity, where some or all of a transaction by a customer is made either online or by mobile.
Adyen has been one of the companies riding the wave by helping to reduce the friction between a company choosing to take payments online, and actually being able to do it. That can take multiple steps and agreements across numerous countries — Adyen’s pitch is that it essentially handles all of it in the backend as a service for its users. Notable partners have included Autocanteen, a touchless self-checkout solution for the hospitality industry, and BILL, a small business-focused fintech platform.
