Who you are
- 10+ years of program management experience in complex, cross-functional environments (hardware/software/regulated industries)
- Proven track record delivering multiple programs in parallel from initiation through commercialization
- Exceptional organizational and stakeholder management skills, including executive-level communication
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and able to structure complex initiatives and influence without authority
- Deep understanding of agile methodologies, product development lifecycles, and cross-functional planning tools (Gantt charts, Resource planning)
- Experience implementing program frameworks or PMO processes
Desirable
- Background in regulated environments such as healthcare, medical devices or finance
- PMI PMP, PgMP, or equivalent program management certification
What the job involves
- The Principal Program Manager (L6) at Butterfly Network is a senior leader responsible for driving the strategy, coordination, and execution of high-impact, cross-functional programs across R&D
- These initiatives span software, hardware, clinical, regulatory, and commercial domains
- This role ensures organizational alignment and delivery excellence from ideation to launch, integrating timelines, budgets, and resources across our matrixed teams
- You'll lead multiple end-to-end programs simultaneously across hardware, software, clinical, regulatory, and commercial domains
- Drive program strategy and execution aligned with Design Controls, HPLC, SDLC, and Butterfly’s product development lifecycle
- Build and maintain detailed program plans incorporating cross-functional input, ensuring accountability for deliverables, milestones, and dependencies
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks, resolve cross-functional conflicts, and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders and executive sponsors
- Champion transparency and rigor in progress reporting, resource forecasting, and stakeholder communications
- Clearly and concisely communicate cross-functional updates and program status
- Lead retrospectives and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring processes and tooling are evolving with the needs of the business
- Mentor junior and mid-level program/project managers helping build a center of excellence for program execution across R&D
Our take
Ultrasound machines are invaluable tools for clinicians, but these setups remain inaccessible to many. This is due to existing machines relying on quartz-powered transducers and other specialized components, resulting in a very large size and an expensive price tag.
Butterfly Network builds innovative, inexpensive, and compact ultrasound technology in order to increase access to clinics across the U.S. The device is around the same size as an electric razor, a design made possible by storing the ultrasound technology on a chip as opposed to a semi-conductor.
Whilst the company has not innovated the ultrasound process itself, Butterfly Network has found a unique gap in the market by providing inexpensive and easy-to-use access to the many clinics that could benefit from having an ultrasound machine. The device is available for under $2,000, but software designed for easy access and interpretation of ultrasound imagery comes at an additional monthly cost.
The company has also launched its very own AI marketplace called ''Butterfly Garden'' where medical device companies, virtual care companies, and AI developers can access Butterfly's software development kit. This will enable them to build new applications that reach Butterfly's prominent installed base.
